Mechanical Engineer

Mechanical Engineer, Sizewell B/C, Suffolk, £35,000 - £40,000

The Opportunity

#WeAreEDF and are leading the transition to a cleaner, low emission electric future, tackling climate change and helping Britain achieve net zero.

As part of our plan to secure a low-carbon energy future, EDF’s Nuclear New Build (NNB) team is developing an ambitious programme to build a fleet of safe, reliable nuclear power stations in the UK, focussed on two new nuclear power stations, the first since Sizewell B (SZB) in 1995. The first station is under construction at Hinkley Point C (HPC) in Somerset, and NNB’s ambition is to build a second at Sizewell C (SZC) in Suffolk. The SZC project is currently in the development phase, with the intention to begin construction of the project at the end of 2021.

We currently have a unique opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer looking to establish their career in the nuclear industry, to join the existing SZB project and gain operational experience, before ultimately transitioning to the SZC new build development team.

The Role

You will be part of a small team at SZB working with the Station Mechanical Engineer, as well as interacting with teams at SZC. You will support the day to day functions of the SZB operating power station, obtaining invaluable operational experience for a period of two years before joining and applying your knowledge to SZC.

You will be accountable for the following:

• Specifying maintenance on your assigned Structure/System/Component (SSC) ensuring costs are optimised and reliability is effective, whilst maintaining SSC safety functions

• Providing technical expertise and knowledge to troubleshoot activities ensuring robust corrective actions are in place to correct issues and prevent recurrence

• Participating in the on-line and outage work planning processes providing engineering technical input as required

• Providing support to other station functions as required

• Assisting and supporting the SZB/SZC Interface manager

• Assisting in the review of SZC project deliverables

The Skills

You will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

• Degree Qualified in related engineering discipline or equivalent experience

• Experience of large-scale complex design projects in nuclear, energy, oil & gas or public sector works

• Inspections and monitoring of systems

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Proactive approach to working

Desirable:

• Design office experience

• Knowledge of Mechanical Building Services (Domestic Water, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Drainage, Building Management Systems)

Competitive Salary & Benefits

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including a pension scheme, a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle, and the opportunity to earn bonus.

Please let us know if you require flexible working arrangements by highlighting this on your application. We’re happy to talk flex in line with the requirements of this opportunity.
