What is the purpose of the role?

The purpose of this site-based mechanical & electrical engineering technician is to ensure that all equipment associated with the Beckton sewage treatment works is running safely and efficiently using both proactive and reactive maintenance methods. You will inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify & repair as appropriate, electrical & mechanical plant equipment.

The successful applicant will be one of the key figures on the ground helping with the day to day operating of our sewage treatment works, helping ensure fluids are decontaminated and put back into our communities safely. Each day can present unique challenges whether it's removing large objects to prevent plant damage or using your expertise to diagnose a fault.

You will be part of highly skilled, enthusiastic, fun team at the largest sewage treatment works in the company which serves over 3.5 million people and is currently undergoing exciting upgrades. You will gain experience on a wide range of plants and equipment from old to innovative investments providing exciting new experiences.

What will this role involve?

This mechanical & electrical engineering technician role will involve but not be limited to:

Carrying out planned and reactive electrical & mechanical installation work in a safe manner

Diagnosing problems quickly to ensure a minimum amount of downtime by taking a proactive approach to improvements

Communicating and reviewing planned preventative maintenance schedules

Investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carry out repairs during incidents

Providing technical advice where appropriate; making reference to up to date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required

Completing jobs to the required standard noting any findings on your company device and following the required reporting methods

Working according to good housekeeping procedures and health & safety regulations by maintaining a clean and safe working environment

Full training will be given for health & safety, technical and processes related to the plant

What are we looking for?

Ideal applicants will have a combined mechanical and electrical (M&E) background in an industrial or similar setting, having completed an apprenticeship. Please note: the minimum requirement for this vacancy is to have industrial electrical knowledge. Experience and working knowledge of large pumps, actuated valves, electronic control systems such as VSD's and 3 phase electrical switch gear is essential. Ideally you will have gained a BTEC (or equivalent) in a combined mechanical and electrical subject and will have passed 17th Edition wiring regulations; but this is not essential. Due to the nature of the role a valid UK driving licence is essential.

Thames Water information and salary details

This role is site based, working out of Beckton sewage treatment works in Essex. We are offering a starting salary of up to £36,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
