Mechanical Design Engineer (Southern Water) - (180000W4)

Reporting to the Design Manager with responsibility for
managing all aspects of mechanical design including site surveys of existing
assets, optioneering and feasibility studies, assisting with tender pricing, production
of procurement specifications for mechanical equipment and production of
detailed design construction drawings. Managing
third party designs and providing design assistance to installation and
commissioning teams. Liaising with
clients and subcontractors. Working as
part of a multi-disciplined team of engineers responsible for the design
management of water and wastewater treatment plants.
role will be based predominantly at our office in Havant with occasional travel
to client’s offices and to both water supply and wastewater treatment sites
associated with Southern Water Non-Infrastructure Framework Agreement during
the AMP6 period, likely to be extended to 2025) for the delivery
of design and build water and wastewater projects as required across West
Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
conditions of contract for the main contract are NEC3 Option C with Z clauses. The conditions of contract for subcontracts are
based on NEC3 and aligned with the main contract.
Management Input to related aspects including estimating,
design and supply chain procurement.
Reporting into the Design Manager you will be responsible for the below aspects:
ensure effective MECHANICAL coordination across assigned projects; support the
tender team, the supply chain, design to ensure the most cost efficient and
effective delivery of Mechanical elements of projects/programmes of work.
with the Estimating Team to provide technical support on all aspects of Mechanical
project scope during pre-target cost setting phase, ensuring accurate costing
for the coordination the delivery of all aspects of MECHANICAL work on
allocated Projects/Programmes of work, working closely with and providing
support to the site delivery teams
in tandem with EICA to ensure right first time solutions are implemented.
Project Manager in all Mechanical related matters from subcontract tender
enquiries, subcontract interviews, subcontract detailed design and delivery
Experience and Qualifications:
To be considered for this role you will be able to demonstrate the below skills and experience:
* Substantial relevant industry
experience covering both water and waste water and a sound understanding of treatment
Demonstrable track record of delivering
water and wastewater non-infrastructure projects including experience in design
and build Mechanical installation
Understanding of NEC3 conditions of
Procurement and management of
Engineering / Technical qualification
or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (degree preferred)
Strong background in Water / Waste
Water (or related engineering industry) project delivery and design
Chartered membership of relevant
professional institution an advantage but not essential providing the candidate
is working towards either incorporated or chartered status.
CSCS (Construction Skills Certification
Scheme) – relevant test for engineer role.
Ability to work in a team environment
contributing across a business unit or area
Good management skills with the ability
to motivate employees to achieve high standards of compliance
Excellent organisational, planning and
time management skills; able to manage projects simultaneously without compromising
standards and quality
Sound knowledge of the water industry
Ability to ensure standards and
specifications are met
Ability to work with senior management
to set operational targets.
