What is the purpose of the role?
We are currently seeking a mechanical and electrical technician to ensure that all equipment associated with our sewage treatment works are running safely and efficiently using both proactive and reactive maintenance methods. You will need to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair as appropriate, electrical & mechanical plant equipment. Working within the maintenance team you will follow robust planned maintenance as well as getting involved in minor installation projects, electrical fault finding and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure our plant operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

What will this role involve?
Examples of equipment that the successful candidate will be working on will be, various pumps and associated control gear, 3 phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSD's, automatic valves and penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling and dosing equipment.
You will form part of a multi-discipline team and be responsible for carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures in order to minimise plant breakdowns.
In addition you will investigate plant failures and carry out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible in order to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents.
You will be expected to provide technical advice, making reference to up to date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required. Participate in a stand-by rota following the relevant training.
What are we looking for?
To be successful in this role as mechanical and electrical technician, you should be a time served apprentice within significant experience of electrical systems working in a "true multi-skilled" capacity. Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering with an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3 is crucial.
Ideally you will have been upskilled with a mechanical qualification to allow to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair as appropriate on mechanical and electrical plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner with minimum supervision.
For individuals with either mechanical or electrical experience only, we will look to develop the right people to dual skilled status.
Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues relevant to the industry would be beneficial for this role, although not essential.
The work will require physical fitness; so you will need the ability to work in confined spaces with successful completion of the appropriate training.
Participation in a 24/7 out of hours standby rota will be required after a suitable period of training and assessment. Due to the nature of the role a valid driving licence is essential and all necessary equipment such as vehicle and tools are provided.
Thames Water information and salary details
You will be based out of Cirencester sewage treatment works and you may be eligible for a Company van. Depending on experience and/or qualifications you will be on a basic salary of £32,000 - £36,800 depending on skills and experience.
