Altran are recruiting for a manufacturing engineer to undertake a role within the Aerospace sector, based at one of our client’s sites in Bristol.

The MEP support required to achieve the manufacture and delivery of parts from the Fast Make external supply chain to Rolls-Royce in line with requirements of SABRe Development Configured Parts and project-specific quality guidance/alleviations.

Your role
* Perform part sourcing assessments and raise QIR, Assess part classification, special processes, overall size, rough method of manufacture against supplier portfolio – ensure proposed sourcing is feasible and verify with supplier as appropriate
* Perform DFM of parts and support drawing buyoff. Prepare for and host DFM sessions on all parts for aligned suppliers; error-check drawing, ensure feasibility of definition for manufacture, including sub con. Ensure special process requirements are understood, including component substantiation
* Support and verify supplier inspection strategy and execution. Work with suppliers to ensure compliance to requirements of AS13003 and SABRe alleviations; ensure inspection resources comply with client Gauge Guide; coach MSA requirements where applicable
* Review and scrutinise supplier manufacturing launch plans. Regularly review supplier MLP to ensure assumptions are correct and estimations fair, identify opportunities for expedition and obtain supplier commitment
* Non-conformance resolution + root cause investigation. Work with suppliers and client Engineering Specialists to resolve any product non-conformance, identifying root cause, extent, assist with sentencing RFIs as required, manage any rework or remedial action agreed with engineering
* Respond to and resolve supplier technical queries. Many Fast Make suppliers operate predominantly outside the aerospace industry – as such, coaching is required to ensure compliance to key client specs/standards (e.g. SABRe DCP, Tempest PO alleviations, RRES, RPS, JES)
* Primary point of contact and able to offer advice on quality assurance matters
* Design For Manufacture
* Drawing buyoff (in conjunction with existing FM ME and the appropriate MECL)
* Manufacturing Launch Planning – scrutinise supplier plans and drive compliance to them
* Subcontract sourcing – where necessary, advise first tier suppliers of suitably approved providers
* Process development – ensure that where appropriate, technically risky features are appropriately trialled ahead of production launch
* Product validation – work with Engineering and Suppliers to ensure a sensible level of validation work is required
* Production of parts – work with buyers to ensure on-time delivery
* Resolution of quality issues
* Delivery of parts in compliance with SABRe/Ultrafan Quality Plan requirements
* ME support is required for specific supplier approval tasks:
* New Approval Requests
* Approval Plans
* Supporting External Supply Chain Capability Assessments
* Supporting Inspection Capability Assessments

Your profile
* Proactive approach and the ability to work under your own initiative.
* Understanding of different types and forms of non-dimensional non-conformance.
* Experience of using process mapping techniques.
* Ability to collect and analyse data from a variety of different sources.
* Interpretation of drawings, technical specifications, and product control documentation.
* Knowledge and application of FAIR, LAIR and FPA processes.
* Understanding and application of lean manufacturing techniques and processes.
* 6 Sigma experience – Green belt preferred.
* Passion to drive change in a challenging environment and the ability to solve complex problems
* Good understanding of manufacturing processes including, turning, milling, grinding, EDM, welding, shot peening and polishing.
* Experience of lifting and work handling equipment.
* Working knowledge of systems including SAP, NX, CAPP, eConsession.
