What is the purpose of the role?
You will be leading a commercial team that focuses on the commercial management, commercial assurance of alliances and project delivery. This role is an integral part of the business Commercial area including supporting Sourcing and Contract Management functions. You will need a proven track record in delivery of projects with detailed commercial and contractual knowledge.

The commercial team will be looking to deliver against strong savings targets across this and the next period, as well as delivering value over and above the pound sign. Working within a matrix environment, the successful candidate will gain great exposure to a huge range of projects, business stakeholders, suppliers and wider business streams. The Commercial team is currently responsible for over £1.5billion worth of spend per year, with contract values ranging between circa £100,000 through to hundreds of million pounds.
What will this role involve?
Provide Commercial Assurance to the Alliance Contracts.
Ensure that payments are made on time and in accordance with the Contracts.
Ensure that appropriate processes are in place and monitored to ensure that Contractual Compliance is maintained and any non-performance is identified and corrective actions implemented as necessary.
Support for the overall management and optimisation of budgets and spend (in conjunction with Finance)
Provide Commercial Claim advice and resolve claims as required.
Assist the Sourcing and Contract Managers with the implementation of robust commercial processes with Third Party Suppliers and provide them with commercial support as required.
As a member of the Commercial Assurance Leadership Team, provide commercial advice and guidance to the business as required
Actively participate in management and strategic development of the Business Planning function
Provide advice regarding Purchaser duties and other tasks under the Alliance Contracts.
What are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will have 10 years' experience in a commercial role and be a chartered Quantity Surveyor. A degree in Quantity Surveying or similar will also be essential. You will have excellent negotiation and dispute resolution skills and some knowledge of water regulation (incl. OFWAT price review methodology). Experience in developing appropriate systems, processes and procedures will be advantageous and you will need excellent leadership skills across multi-discipline teams. You will also be an excellent communicator and customer service ethic working with senior stakeholders. You will have a firm grasp of risks associated with delivery of projects, a track record in continuous improvement and ability to deliver against stretching targets as well as a broad water industry and business knowledge. You will be a self-starter, resilient and tenacious under pressure.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is based at Clearwater Court and is offering a salary of up to £60,000 based on experience, as well as a competitive bonus, car allowance, private healthcare and an industry leading pension scheme.
