Due to a number of new opportunities J. Murphy & Sons are recruiting for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor.

The Projects, operating under NEC form of contract for National Grid, consists of the design and development phase of a larger project to install electrical cable in the Bristol area. Phase one will consist of developing the detailed design, price, risk register and supply chain strategy.

The Role

* Collate, analysis & challenge Cost/Value Reports and forecasts as required, implement required actions

* Design and implement a commercial strategy for their portfolio and tenders with the assistance of their functional manager

* Ensure that the Commercial Practitioners administer the contracts correctly in a timely and professional manner

* Identify, mitigate and manage risk & opportunities for the portfolio of work

* Assist with the development and training of Commercial Practitioners including supervisor / mentor /

* counsellor role for staff undertaking their APC or equivalent

* Assist in building a team, manage the development of personal plans, establishment of objectives/targets

* for all direct reports and monitor on an ongoing basis - maintain performance

* Delegation of appropriate work to all staff, whilst maintaining accountability

* Ensure the site teams adheres to group procedures and governance

Your profile

* Experience of managing a number of Quantity Surveyors

* NEC3 Contract Management and Administration Experience, NEC 4 preferred not a pre-requisite.

* Chartership preferred

* Site based experience

* Energy sector experience

* Experience of working on National Grid projects

* Tendering experience

* Experience of developing people around you, directly and indirectly

* Good communication skills including presentations and ability to negotiate with external stakeholders and supply chain partners

* Sound knowledge of Reading, Berkshire and understand Primavera programme tools, including understanding critical path analysis
