What is the purpose of the role?

The maintenance operations manager is responsible for leading and developing a team of mechanical and electrical technicians to deliver excellent customer service and operational performance for Water Production in the Guildford area. The role includes technical coordinator responsibilities: managing maintenance stock; planning complex and non-complex maintenance work; coordinating third party maintenance activities; as well as the delivery of minor capital projects. As a field operations manager, you will split your time between the office and the field, enabling you to provide direct support, engagement and performance management both as a team and on a one to one basis.

This role will utilise both your technical knowledge and strong leadership skills, as you will be managing both asset and people performance. What will this role involve?

Managing a team across your area, you will be responsible for delivering an effective and efficient maintenance plan in conjunction with key stakeholders. You will:

Manage the delivery of the maintenance plan, both qualitatively and quantitatively.

Drive a proactive culture to ensure high asset availability targets are met and asset failures/unplanned outages are minimised.

Monitor and driving performance against key metrics to make sure all work is responded to in timely fashion.

Lead and develop technicians by setting measurable goals, holding team meetings, one to one's, completing PDR process and creating individual development training plans.

Promote a culture of engagement and motivation within the team.

Conduct regular site visits to assess the quality of work being completed by your team and other deliverers.

Take team responsibility for safe working practices which comply with company procedures.

Identify and support the implementation of new initiatives to drive operational efficiency and customer service improvements.

What are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have experience in leading, developing and performance managing field based maintenance technicians. They should have a strong maintenance background. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are vital for this role and you must have an exceptional standard of organisation. You will be fully competent in use of Microsoft Office as well as planning and reporting software. Formal leadership and management qualifications are desirable (but not essential). Knowledge and understanding of the Water Treatment Process is preferable, but training will be provided. Previous experience of liaising with internal and external stakeholders is also highly regarded.

Thames Water information and salary details

This role is offering a salary between £28,900 - £39,100 and will be based out of our Shalford WTW in Guildford, however travel around your geographical area will be required.
