Mains Flushing Engineer - Water Utilities

Salary – up to £32,000 per annum

Location - Severn Trent Water
Duration - Initial 4 month fixed term contract.

Reason for new role – An element of the Severn Trent Water is to provide water that is safe and clean to drink. One of the performance commitments to enable this to happen is to reduce the number of times customers contact Yorkshire Water about discoloration, taste and odour and illness. A key part of the strategy to achieve this is to undertake a mains flushing programme.

What will the new role involve? – The planning ,execution and feedback of mains flushing schemes. Each flushing scheme will be developed by a team of engineers. It will come in the form of a flushing pack and you will be required to fit turbidity loggers, check that all the assets are accessible, operable, plan a date and undertake the flushing operation. Samples will be required throughout the process and these will have to be checked and assessed on site to determine the turbidity and hence the success of the operation. There will be a specific feedback process.
There will be a suitable period of training and accreditation.

What knowledge, skills and attributes are required?
• Strong Health and Safety awareness.
• Good communication skills – both written and verbal.
• The ability to operate clean water valves and hydrants in a safe and predictable manner.
• The ability to deploy and download loggers.
• Competent in IT. Use of spreadsheets is essential.
• Knowledge of DOMS process and Water Quality.
