The Associate Project Management Apprenticeship will be a stretching and fulfilling role where you will be involved in a range of project management activities linked to STFC’s world-leading science and technology projects that are managed at the STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory near Oxford.

You will gain exposure to and support the management of key projects, building relationships with colleagues and internal/external stakeholders. You will work closely with experienced, knowledgeable and highly skilled technical colleagues whilst learning the core processes of project management including; scheduling, management of risk, project assurance and financial management.

You will be a key part of a dynamic team, working on exciting projects in the field of Scientific Research. Duties and responsibilities will include:

* Supporting project managers to resolve any issues
* Supporting project managers with project activities, such as reviewing budgets, managing risks, stakeholder management and progress updates
* Reviewing project documentation
* Project reporting; producing reports and MI
* Project administration and monitoring
* Supporting project management boards
* Organising and attending project meetings; producing minutes and clear actions with SMART objectives
* Communicate with staff of all levels across departments, as well as external partners.

The apprentice will gain first-hand exposure to the management of multi-million pound projects with the emphasis on learning in the workplace on live projects, supported by theoretical learning. In return, you will have the opportunity to make an impact on real projects early on in your role, where you’ll also learn the specialist skills tailored to the knowledge, skills and behaviours of a competent Project Manager. You will receive mentoring from trained project professionals as well as access to internal and external training courses.

We will support you to undertake paid apprenticeship training. In addition to this and “on the job” training, you will have opportunity to subscribe to professional online tutorial sites, attend technical courses, undertake various soft skills training, and take part in our organisation-wide apprentice networking and training events where you will meet and get to know other apprentices such as our computing, electronics, mechanical and electrical engineering apprentices. We will assign you a mentor for the duration of the scheme.

Qualifications you will achieve as part of your Project Management Apprenticeship:

* Associate Project Manager Level 4 Apprenticeship
* APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ).

This apprenticeship will provide you with the tools, knowledge and experience that is needed to successfully manage complex projects. It would ideally suit someone with some commercial/industry experience who is looking to move into a project support role whilst developing professional skills and accreditation in this area.
