The Opportunity

Are you looking for a legal career which is rewarding, at the cutting edge of project development and where you can really make a difference? Come and join our expanding New Nuclear Build Legal team and work on one of the most exciting, unique projects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda.

As a Legal Counsel –Shareholder Liaison, you will sit within our ‘HPC and Nuclear Development’ Legal team and the work of this team is critical to the success of the nuclear new build projects, with responsibilities which include:

* Governance: managing complex governance arrangements across EDF’s new nuclear projects in the UK with shareholders and UK Government.

* Intellectual Property Rights: understanding, overseeing and advising on complex IPR rights across different technologies.

* Regulatory and planning: supporting the businesses with regulatory compliance and development/compliance with planning requirements.

* Compliance: supporting the business in understanding regulatory compliance obligations and demonstrating best practice in all aspects including GDPR, export controls, health & safety and environment, nuclear licensing.

Day to Day

* Develop, share knowledge and work closely with others within the HPC & Nuclear Development Legal Team in providing solutions to enable the success of the projects and protecting shareholder interests.

* Provide timely, pro-active and solutions focussed legal advice on management of the equity arrangements, key contracts, arrangements with Government and shareholders and general advice on the HPC and other nuclear development projects.

* Act as the expert in shareholder matters relating to each of the UK new nuclear build projects, providing support to the General Counsel and Senior Legal Counsel (Shareholder Liaison) on matters from a shareholder viewpoint across all equity and project documents.

* Whilst the role predominantly focuses on understanding and navigating existing agreements, it also required the review, draft and negotiation of contracts where appropriate.

* Identify and support management of claims and disputes which may arise.

* Develop and deliver training courses appropriate for the business and for other solicitors as required.

* Undertake research, as directed, on future legislative changes that may impact the business.

EDF is the industry leader in low carbon generation and is the majority shareholder in the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C (HPC) in Somerset. We are also in the development of a further proposed new nuclear power station at Sizewell C (SZC) in Suffolk.

These are major infrastructure projects with a critical role to play in the UK’s climate change ambitions and developing these projects will help the UK stay in control of its low-carbon future, create tens of thousands of employment opportunities and bring billions to the local economy.

The Skills

You will need:

* To be a qualified solicitor admitted in England and Wales.

* Relevant post qualification experience as a solicitor.

* Experience of delivering a pro-active business focused service that anticipates risks and seeks solutions to problems.

* Solid, well rounded legal knowledge and experience preferably as a projects or corporate solicitor across joint venture projects and/or the energy sector.

* To be able to use MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint to an intermediate level.
