Reports to: Actuation Group Lead

The Opportunity

We have an opportunity within the Actuation Systems Centre of Excellence, New Business Team, for a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to manage the mechanical design aspects of new bids and our internal research and development work.

You will be working for the New Business Design Authority to develop bids and design concepts in response to the business needs.

The Actuation Systems Centre of Excellence provides actuation and control systems for all MBDA nations.

What are we looking for?

*

Ideally Degree/HND/HNC qualified plus significant post qualification experience in Mechanical Design, development and qualification/certification.

*

Experience of electro mechanical mechanism design is an advantage but not essential.

*

Experience of the early phases of product lifecycle and bidding activities is an advantage but not essential.

*

Good planning skills and the ability to have multiple activities running concurrently.

*

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders across the business.

*

The awareness and understanding of cultural differences with the ability to adapt accordingly.

*

Willing, helpful attitude, a calm professional manner and the ability to assess and set priorities and deal with multiple issues on a regular basis.

*

Robust design experience using common development techniques such as DFMEA, DFA, DFM.

*

Experience of supplier engagement and development across internal and external multi-disciplinary teams.

The Role

You will be responsible for:

Managing the day to day mechanical design activities for actuation systems (with particular focus on the early concept development and mechanical sizing).

*

Working with cross functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of a number of actuation systems.

*

Management, and delivery, of the mechanical aspects of Actuation Systems Internal Research and Development tasks.

*

Ensuring lessons learnt from ‘in-development’ products are incorporated and help to ensure continuous improvement within the mechanical function is maintained.
