We are constantly looking for the right people to solve real-world mobility challenges and invent the transport systems of tomorrow
Due to an internal promotion we have this opportunity available, based at our Birmingham Offices

This role leads in the delivery of the configuration of signalling systems for a number of our exciting projects across the UK and Ireland. In addition to our existing projects, we have been awarded Network Rail framework contracts to deliver signalling services to their Southern and Eastern regions with a potential value of £750m, as part of their plan to help deliver a more reliable railway
The postholder is responsible for the development and / or improvement of tools and processes within the business, including capturing requirements, planning, specification identification, design, implementation, testing and roll out. The role also shares the responsibility for ensuring that such tools and processes remain fit for purpose, by ensuring that a program of continuous improvement is in place
The technology and products that the role uses includes MCS, VHLC / ElectroLogIXS, SMARTLOCK data (scheme and VIXL data), SMARTLOCK systems (support system and test environment) and automated production and testing services
As a summary, the responsibilities of the role include:

* Leading the delivery of Signalling systems configuration

* Driving the delivery / improvement of Signalling tools and processes

* Ensuring that activities are delivered on time and to budget

* Line management of a small team

* Mentoring of other Alstom signalling staff

* Identifying improvements in processes and tools within the Alstom signalling business

* Ensuring IRSE logbooks and “Authority to Work” is maintained and regularly reviewed

In addition to a degree in an engineering or numerate subject, the successful candidate will also already have the following attributes:

* Strong verbal and written communication skills

* Effective presentation skills

* The proven ability to prepare outline business cases

* Previous experience of successfully implementing new tools and processes

* Working knowledge of UK Rail I.E. signalling design processes

* Ability to carry out configuration works on at least one of the following systems

* MCS

* VHLC / ElectroLogIXS

* SMARTLOCK (scheme and VIXL data)

* SMARTLOCK (support system and test environment)

* Automated production and testing services

Ideally, you will also have the proven ability to write software in VB.NET, C#.NET &/or C++
