Job Summary

The AECOM Water business has an immediate requirement for a Lead Design Engineer to join our Caledonia Water Alliance team in Stepps (Glasgow) to support our Wastewater projects.

Role Responsibilities:

Project Engagement

*

Support the PM during the acceptance and engagement phase of the project, providing feedback on the quality and extent of the hand over documentation identifying any gaps in information.

*

Attend site visits and walkovers, record information relevant to design and construction, and ensure that information is circulated to the design team.

Project Planning

*

Support the PM in preparation of the ePMP, project programme and cost estimation, highlighting needs for specialist input (ecological, geotechnical, hydraulic modelling, MEICA etc.).

*

Identify and document the design resources required to cover all technical and drafting tasks within the project including checking and verification.

Design Phase

*

Manage the preparation of design information for both outline design and detailed design stages.

*

Provide the key role of technical lead on projects, or programmes of smaller projects, where appropriate.

*

If a project requires additional technical leadership, identify this and ensure that it is requested and provided.

*

Manage design elements of project to programme, cost and quality requirements.

*

Manage the multi-disciplinary team to complete technical project delivery ensuring that they are provided a clear brief, defined time periods and opportunities for regular interaction with other team members.

*

Monitor developing designs and resolve any issues highlighted by the design team escalating to the PM as required.

*

Provide early warning advice to the PM for items outside of project scope.

*

Manage the preparation of the EES Schedule, liaising with the CWA estimating team to incorporate non-standard construction activities or risks.

*

Liaise with construction delivery teams regarding buildability issues.

*

Manage liaison with key stakeholders: AIM, CSD, Network, Delivery, Shared Services, Fire Authorities, Roads Authorities etc.

CDM & Quality

*

Ensure that the CWA IMS procedures are implemented and adhered to;

*

Ensure the requirements of the Designer and Principal Designer under the CDM Regulations are met

*

Review and sign off H&S documentation including design risk assessments

*

Ensure checking and verification procedure is adhered to; Provide mentorship and guidance to Technical Design Staff

*

Ensure that design information conforms to Scottish Water Standards & Specifications reporting requested or required waivers to the project PM if necessary;

Programme level

*

Contribute to resource planning with CAD Manager

*

Provide relevant technical skills for the wastewater industry - e.g. (pipeline) hydraulics, civil engineering design, construction techniques, understanding of other engineering disciplines;

*

Understanding of the application, benefits and limitations of a wide range of solutions to problems - for example both traditional engineering solutions and sustainable solutions

*

Liaise with Engineering Manager, Quality and CAD Manager regarding design standards and resourcing issues.

Minimum Requirements

*

Engineering degree qualified.

*

Chartered Engineer Status (or approaching chartered status).

*

Experience in the full cycle of project design delivery from inception to detailed design.

*

Sufficient experience to lead major water and drainage infrastructure engineering projects.

*

Ability to liaise and engage with clients and key stakeholders;

*

Provide mentoring, guidance and technical advice to support and supervise junior staff;

*

Flexible to travel to other AECOM and client offices.

Preferred Qualifications

*

Significant experience in managing the technical delivery of large-scale water engineering projects

*

Project management experience

*

Industry recognised Health and Safety qualifications

*

Experience of having undertaken a mentoring role in developing staff capabilities
