Stantec, has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Design Engineer to join our team in High Wycombe on a permanent basis.

The successful candidate will lead and deliver a variety of water infrastructure projects based on a good base of experience in the water industry including design and network modelling. Lead project teams of technical staff, coordinate the inputs from multi-disciplined teams, and manage quality and timely delivery of outputs.

Overall Responsibilities

Overall responsibility is to deliver project design and technical outputs to the project PM and others in the project team to expected quality, budget and schedule.

Specific Responsibilities

• Leading Design Project Teams:
o Define and agree project design scope, design budget, delivery timelines with Design and Project Manager
o Setup project quality systems including identification of check and reviewers
o Strong communication internally within the design team and externally with project stakeholders.
o Working closely with construction teams, contractors, network operations, asset management, environmental and land quality teams, land agents, streetworks, customer teams and other third parties to ensure an agreed solution.
o Lead design teams across multiple home companies, office and countries.

• Production of Design Outputs
o Undertake and review network analysis and modelling to confirm performance of solutions.
o Engage with network operations to gain relevant acceptances for proposed designs.
o Seek solution efficiencies and innovations with a review to reducing delivery/capital costs.
o Knowledge of the clients asset standards for production of compliant designs
o Production of design and construction drawings
o Production of construction packs including the following:
 - Pre-construction information
 - Designers Risk Assessments
 - Health and Safety information
 - Site Information
 - Works Information
 - Cost Estimation Tools
 - Sustainability and Carbon Assessments
 - Operational Cost Impacts of Solution

• Support and assist the Professional Growth of the Design Team
o Clearly communicate and explain requirements
o Provide the necessary tools and resources to facilitate successful designs
o Provide on the job learning and development opportunities
o Maintain team morale and enthusiasm
o Recognise and reward good work

• Project Technical Management
o Undertake monthly reporting on project delivery and financial performance
o Good understanding of project budget
o Understand impacts technical design decisions may have on project budget and commercials
o Manage scope and maintain a change register
o Ensure quality and apply technical governance.
o Track progress against schedule
o Communicate and address performance issues early.

• Client Service and Relationship Management
o Build, develop and manage strong working relationships with internal and external clients.
o Respond quickly and professionally to client requests and needs
o Develop trust within project teams and with client contacts through honest, open and respectful communication.

• Business Development
o Proposal development
o Industry knowledge and identification of new project opportunities for the company
o Promoting the company and service offering to prospective clients.

Qualifications
To be successful in this role you will need;

Qualifications
- A Civil Engineering or Water-related degree (ideally post-graduate qualification)
- Professionally Qualified (Chartered) Engineer

- Technical Capability in relevant field (Water Infrastructure)
- Delivery of projects to time/cost/budget and according to Governance
