The Lead Cost Engineer leads and manages project budgeting according to the project controls procedures set for the specific project. S/he leads the productivity and cost forecasting, trending and reporting efforts for the overall self-performed activities. The Lead Cost Engineer supervises other self-perform cost engineers and reports to the Project Cost Director. S/he must have prior supervisory experience in a direct-hire, self-perform construction environment. S/he must be a team player and have strong organizational and communication skills to help the project team accomplish the project objectives by providing cost and budget management guidance. Ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships with the project construction team is a must.

What You'll Do:

*

Lead development and maintenance of budgets for a project consistent with the project execution plan under the guidance of the Project Controls Manager. This includes reorganizing budgets resulting from a change in scope or means and methods, as well as updating budgets for additional work activities;

*

Analyze and review construction drawings, contracts and purchase orders to identify risks and trends;

*

Walk the construction site in order to collect or verify information as needed;

*

Lead reviewing the coding of timesheets, invoices, etc. for accuracy as well as insuring that adequate tracking of quantities and production is done on a weekly basis. The results should be analyzed and clearly communicated to the other members of the project team;

*

Lead the trend and cost risk programs to maintain the cost forecast on a continuous basis and prepare periodic project forecasts based on the ongoing design and construction activities;

*

Provide supervision and/or on-the-job training to cost engineers;

*

Lead the preparation and negotiation of cost for additional work on the project including tracking Time & Material work;

*

Lead the preparation of monthly and weekly cost reports complete with trends, risks and production;

*

Maintain the contract management database as needed.

We're Looking For:

*

Prior cost engineering/project controls supervisory experience in self-perform, direct-hire construction projects;

*

Direct-hired construction knowledge and experience;

*

Computer knowledge, expertise in Excel;

*

Indirect and equipment cost forecasting and monitoring expertise;

*

Strong leadership, unauthoritative influence, organizational and time management skills;

*

Broad understanding of engineering and construction processes;

*

Ability to understand the project scope;

*

Strong written and verbal communication skills;

*

Ability to represent cost engineering function in a cross-function team;

*

Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times;

*

Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications;

*

Ability to manage a small team;

*

Monitor and interpret design changes and forecast their impact on project objectives;

*

Monitor and interpret schedule and other project changes and forecast their impact on project costs;

*

Understanding of project risk management concepts;

*

Construction cost estimating for a defined scope of work;

*

Proficiency in MS Access, Prolog and/or Primavera P6;

*

Knowledge and experience in design build projects;

*

Prior project management or engineering experience;

*

Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or equivalent;

*

Minimum 10 years of experience at a construction company;

*

Prior aviation construction experience is desired but not required.
