Description of Team / Department
Manufacturing cement of a consistently high quality is of tremendous importance to us.
We regularly test the physical and chemical profile of our products at our work laboratories and our National Laboratory at Scunthorpe to ensure that our products meet the requirements of our customers and the appropriate British Standards. As a Laboratory Technician, reporting to the Laboratory Manager, you work in a team of seven Laboratory Technicians and are supervised by four Senior Laboratory Technicians. You carry out analysis of cementitious materials, to the highest integrity and in a timely manner. You will also liaise with the Technical Services Manager and Technical Assistants, also based in Scunthorpe, when work crosses between the teams.
Purpose of / Responsibilities of the role
Chemical & Physical Analysis of Cementitious materials and Calumite – To carry out analysis in accordance with relevant product standards, specifications and local operating procedures, ensuring good performance to the Heidelberg proficiency scheme.
Monitoring & Reporting Results – To monitor & report results in a correct and timely manner to all interested parties within the business.
Health, Safety and Environment
Laboratory Cleanliness – To ensure that the laboratory and laboratory equipment is kept in a clean condition at all times.
Laboratory Sustainability Performance – To ensure that laboratory tasks are carried out in accordance with the company's Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality Objectives.
Skills / Experience
There are no specific education/qualification requirements required for this role as full training will be provided, although a science qualification would be desirable.
A valid UK driving license is required as travelling to other Hanson sites for training will be necessary.
Knowledge and Experience
Experience of working in a laboratory environment is advantageous.
An understanding of test methods and risk assessments.
Excellent IT skills using standard software packages such as Microsoft Excel and Word.
Ability to assimilate and use IT systems that may be new to the user.
Ability to communicate effectively with different levels of staff.
Ability to work on own initiative and meet strict deadlines.
