About the Department

Our SSEN Distribution Operations teams are responsible for keeping the lights on; we are at the front line on the Network. If we find a fault, it is our responsibility to respond to the fault, and dispatch our skilled teams to fix it as quickly as possible. We work in all hours, and through all weathers, ensuring our customers are never without power.

What is the Role?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Cable Jointer to join our team based in Dundee supporting operations across the Dundee and Angus areas. You'll carry out construction and repair work on cable, plant and equipment from LV up to 33kv. You'll also be responsible for the safety of yourself and colleagues, and act as ambassador for a strong safety culture in everything you do.

This role can be demanding, and you'll be required to respond quickly to emergency situations; we want to provide the best possible service to our customers in their time of need. In addition, your role will involve working outdoors in all weather conditions and there will also be a requirement to undertake standby duties.

What do I need?

To be successful in this role you will have a proven track record in construction, repair and operation of electrical plant and equipment up to 11kV and should have a sound HV and LV electrical knowledge. In line with our key company values you will need a good understanding of sustainability and health and safety.

You should also have good communication skills, both technical and non-technical, be adaptable, self-motivated and flexible. A clean driving licence is essential as you will be required to travel and work in different locations. You also need to be flexible to carry out stand-by duties and attend short notice work in the event of severe weather.
