Wood is recruiting for a Innovation Technologist to work in our Aberdeen office. This exciting new role is part of our ongoing Digital and Technology journey.

We are living in advanced times where technology is rapidly evolving. It’s changing the way we live, the way we interact and the way we think. The Innovation Technologist will work at the cutting edge of this change and help Wood achieve the impossible.

The role will support the VP of Innovation and Innovation Manager on focused short and medium-term projects with clearly actionable goals and measurable criteria for innovation success within Woods customers. Working as a key member of the innovation team supporting the centralised Digital Factory, the innovation team will help develop and oversee an effective, imaginative, results oriented, customer centric, efficient, and focused strategic approach to innovation for Wood. Much of the work will be project based involving research, collaboration and partnerships with internal stakeholders driving demand for innovation and external technology providers supporting the development of future products and services.

The Client – Innovation Technologist will also support the customer experience in our physical CoLab in Aberdeen enabling demonstration of the art of the possible in a collaboration environment in which people are involved, respected, connected, and encouraged. Furthermore, the role will support the synthesising of research data gathered in CoLab or from desktop studies to prioritise innovation roadmaps and development opportunities for key clients and sectors.

Responsibilities

* Under the instruction of the VP of Innovation and CoLab Innovation Manager to examine new technologies and their applicability to solve customer needs or offer new opportunities for improved effectiveness and efficiency
* Conduct desk top research for specific client opportunities relating to the introduction of new technologies and the ability to prioritise key areas for development
* Develop high level technology roadmaps based on research – utilising knowledge of existing capability within Wood and with our partner network, outlining how this can impact our clients
* Conduct pre-session research with CoLab stakeholders (Strategy & Development, Business Partner/Engagement Lead, Emerging Solns leads) to focus on specific outcomes from workshops directly aligned with client requirements
* Plan and prepare client facing workshops (physical and virtual) to engage stakeholders and clients in the art of the possible. Some experience of facilitating groups sessions is desirable but training will be provided
* Take a consultative approach to support the business understand how to leverage technology, function, and content of the CoLab. Be able to solve problems and create innovative solutions to support customer engagements
* Support development of Wood CoLab playbook to include operational requirements within hubs
* Skilled at managing multiple, concurrent projects, meeting deadlines, and attention to detail required
* Work with the Digital and Technology function and other managers to ensure best use of the CoLab
* Support seed funding and external grant development of research proposals around innovation

Skills / Qualifications

The Innovation Technologist is an ambitious person, comfortable in a client environment with a keen interest in technology and proven skills and experience in planning and conducting research that helps teams and clients build a shared understanding of a problem to working collaboratively to define a technological solution.

Qualifications:

* Educated to degree level or equivalent
* Knowledge in technology and technical developments and their application in research

Knowledge, skills, and experience:

* An ability to act and work independently but also as an effective and enthusiastic team member
* An ability to engage in a collaborative manner
* Ability to present and communicate clearly, confidently and influence stakeholders based on sound research
* Excellent oral, written communication, and inter-personal skills. The role will require presentation of key findings and the development of succinct reports to capture findings
* Team player with a solution focused mentality
* Understanding of the software development lifecycle, agile delivery and innovation deployment and embedment techniques is an advantage
