Position Title Hydrologist Consultant

Job Summary

AECOM is looking to employ a consultant level Hydrologist within our growing Water team in Basingstoke. The candidate will ideally have consultancy experience and will be expected to build upon their skills already gained to deliver hydrological assessment and inputs across a range of projects. You will be joining a team with diverse skills and there will be opportunities to gain further training across a range of areas related to water quality, flood management, hydromorphology, environmental assessment and engineering design. Key responsibilities will include supporting senior hydrologists and water specialists in the provision of hydrological assessment and inputs, and supporting the team in the delivery of a range of flood management, environmental assessment, low flow and water resource management projects.

Job Duties :


Provision of hydrological inputs to a wide range of projects to support flood risk estimation, design of flood risk management schemes, water resource assessments, water cycle studies, Water Framework Directive assessments and environmental impact assessments;


Leading and contributing to report writing and delivery;


Working closely with key industry regulators and clients such as the Environment Agency and Water companies to complete key project tasks and support project delivery;


Managing own time inputs into specific hydrological project tasks across a range of study types; and,


Working closely and interfacing with colleagues both within water and across a range of disciplines such as design teams, aquatic ecology and hydrogeology.

Specific Skills :


Experience in the application of FEH software (WINFAP-FEH, ReFH1 and ReFH2)


Good report writing skills


Good numeracy skills


Good organisational skills


Proficiency in GIS software (e.g. ArcGIS, MapInfo or QGIS)


Ability to work with minimal supervision

Optional skills


​Experience of water resource or low flow studies


Experience of fluvial modelling (e.g. Hec-Ras, Flood Modeller, TuFlow)


Experience of urban drainage


Experience of water quality modelling and/or assessment


Understanding of Water Framework Directive compliance and assessment


Experience in consultancy

Minimum Requirements

* You will hold a relevant degree in Geography, Physical Sciences or Civil Engineering and ideally a Masters or PhD in Hydrology

Preferred Qualifications

You will be working towards chartership with a relevant institution (e.g. CIWEM or ICE)
