Nationallywe are engaged in significant highways projects such as the Silvertown ThamesTunnel and the Forth Replacement Crossing. Client involvementincludes Highways England frameworks such as CDF and SPaTS, the Smart MotorwayProgramme, and several design and build links with major contractors.

Ourexpertise is also a critical component of a multidisciplinary offer on projectssuch as HS2. Approximately 1200 staff work on highway projects in the UK eachyear, successfully delivering integrated, multidisciplinary projects for ourclients.

Arup Office

Therole is based at the Arup ‘Campus’ in Solihull, a purpose built office whichcomprises over 600 people representing the full range of professional serviceswe offer. You will join our growing highways team, which is morethan 70 people strong and delivers a wide portfolio of work from multi millionpound projects for Highways England to designing small scale junctions fordevelopers. We also work as designers for contractors and adviseGovernments and Lenders on PPP projects. Our current projects arespread across the Midlands, the wider UK, and internationally across Europe andAfrica. We have a strong forward workload which supports our strategy to expandthe team.

Opportunitiesalso exist for experience overseas, and in related fields such as railways. TheArup Campus serves as Arup’s global highways skill-centre and we regularlyassist our 70+ worldwide offices with highways projects. This can include shortor long-term assignments.

We are seeking a highway technician to be based at the Arup ‘Campus’office. You will join our growing highways team, which is more than70 people strong and delivers a wide portfolio of work from multi million-poundprojects for Highways England to designing small scale junctions fordevelopers.

The Role

The successful candidate will join our existing engineering team tosupport in the delivery of high-profile highway and infrastructureprojects. You will be responsible for your own work (designs,drawings, calculations, reports, etc) as part of a design team. You will berequired to self-check your work and check that of others to ensure compliancewith local Arup Management System Assurance procedures.

You will run discipline design teams for small projects, or as a part ofa larger project, undertaking highway alignment design and digital developmentusing the latest 3D design software. Delivering projects from feasibilitystudies and route selection through to detailed design and buildprojects. Demonstrating technical capability and experience in one or moreareas such as alignment and junction design, drainage, pavement, signs and roadmarkings. You will be required to occasionally working with and from otheroffices.

Essential Skills and Knowledge

· Practical knowledgeand experience of relevant highway design codes (eg DMRB).

· Ability in, anddemonstrable experience of, the application of 3D highway design softwarepackages (e.g. OpenRoads, MX, Civils 3D, etc) on major highways.

· Ability to liaisewith other discipline design teams and external parties, as primary contact mayinclude clients (at a technical level), contractors, and government agencies.

· Experience ofmanaging others

Desirable skills and knowledge:

· Experience of thedelivery of preliminary and detailed highway design, including the submissionof Departures from Standards, and scheme assessment reporting

· Experience of thedelivery of highway or large infrastructure design and build projects would bedesirable

· Specialist digitalskills in 3D highway modelling, Visualisations, BIM, Common Data Environmentsor proficiency in coding languages such as Python, Dynamo or C# would beadvantageous.

· Experience of virtualdesign review software – e.g. AutoDesk Navisworks and/or BentleyNavigator

Qualifications:

· Design technicianwith a minimum of six years post level 3 civil engineering experience.

· Have as a minimumIncorporated Engineer (IEng) status or be actively working towards this orsimilar status of a relevant professional body.
