Front End Developer- Newcastle/ Sheffield

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a front-end developer tojoin our global development team specialising in technical software forstructural engineering design and analysis. You will be developing Oasys, a world-leadingstructural engineering software suite that has been used to design iconicstructures like the Gherkin in London and The Angel of the North.

The role

We are transitioning our existing applications from a desktop systemimplemented predominantly in C++ to a modern, flexible and responsive designthat is ready for cloud deployment. Our main languages are JavaScript, C#/.NETand C++17.

Our team is a mix of structural engineers and software developers indifferent locations around the world, who work to define and develop newfeatures as well as refine and optimise the existing ones.

You should apply if:

* You are an experienced, independent front-end developer, with a realdesire to make a difference.
* You have experience of working on agile projects, preferably usingScrum and test-driven development.
* You enjoy sharing your knowledge and mentoring your junior team mates.

Responsibilities of the roleinclude:

* Developing software in browser-based frameworks (React, Vue, Angular)and programming languages including JavaScript, C++, Python, C#/.NET, SQL.
* Playing an active part in our agile team: helping to build an inclusiveenvironment, sharing your knowledge and promoting development best practiceswith colleagues within in the team and the wider Arup developer community.
* Keeping up to date with the software industry trends through hands-onexperimentation with new technologies, blogging and attending workshops.
* Requirements and skills

Essential skills and knowledge

* Demonstartable experience as afront-end developer with demonstrable proficiency in modern HTML, CSS andJavaScript.
* Experience of frameworks such as React, Angular, Vue.
* Experience of working in an agile environment, using user-centricdesign, continuous integration and test-driven development.
* Excellent communication skills. Ability to solve complex problems andopenness in sharing your knowledge and thinking with others.
* Strong team working skills with ability to build trusted relationshipswith people and groups with diverse backgrounds.

Desirable skills and knowledge:

* Experience with 3D graphics (OpenGL, WebGL, three.js) or spatialJavaScript libraries (e.g. Leaflet.js).
* Experience of source control using Git, CI/CD, Azure DevOps.
* Experience of working in multinational, multicultural environments.

Required Behaviours:

* Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering,or equivalent experience
