Purpose of the Role

To support the Rail Services Freight division as required, managing cost, profitably and delivery of responsible contracts. This will be achieved through an ability to monitor contracts effectively and an in depth understanding of the deliverables, costs, risks and value of the contracts. Also, to provide effective day to day reporting and contract management to a range of Freight clients.

Key Accountabilities

Commercial and Financial management for a range of contracts and clients.

Bid and Contract review as part of both tendering support and dealing with the supply chain.

Cost modelling and risk reviews as part of tendering support and understanding contract performance.

Identify and implement cost savings with Planning, Engineering and Operations Managers

Assist the Commercial Manger with the sales pipelines to ensure opportunities are appropriately managed

Work with Commercial to ensure there is a best in class standard suite of contract suite for the division.

Manage the record keeping process to support all contracts delivered by the division required for financial cost control, all reporting, measuring and valuing work, extension of time requests and variations.

Provide timely and accurate reports on contract full life projection, including reports on un-agreed amounts included in end life forecast.

Review and check revenue/applications for payment and invoices as appropriate.

Cost management of resources appertaining to responsible contracts e.g. labour, hotels, taxis, fuel & Traction and Rolling Stock leases and hires.

Work with Commercial to manage cash flow of contracts including cash receivable from clients and payments due to suppliers.

Develop and optimize contract control and processes as required by the business including internal and external KPI requirements.

Provide a positive input to client meetings

Evaluate, negotiate and agree contractual claims with Commercial.

Manage and prepare reports for CVR period reporting

Liaise with the Policy manger and Legal on damage and insurance claims

Assist Commercial with tenders, negotiations and manage bid opportunities including ensuring the internal governance requirements are met. Including Go-No go mandate form completion.

Advise commercial, engineering and operations to ensure cost models are not breached.

Ensuring contract deliverables and requirements are fully understood by all stakeholders including admin, operations, planning engineering, commercial

Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.

Person Specification

The job holder will have

A thorough knowledge of contract delivery and cost control administration.

Organizational ability with proven communications and motivation skills. Ability to meet tight reporting deadlines.

Ability to express views and explain concepts to clients, suppliers and colleagues.

Good and proven negotiating skills

A comprehensive understanding of contract reporting methodology including an in depth commercial and financial performance management.

Proactive self-starter with the ability to constantly improve standards.

Ability to explain commercial concepts to others, including non-commercial managers
