About the Department

SSEN owns and operates two electricity distribution networks and one transmission network, comprising some 123,000 substations and 127,000km of overhead lines and underground cables, distributing electricity to 3.5 million homes and businesses in the North of Scotland and Southern England.

The Flexible Solutions Team (FST) are responsible for the design, construction and management of SSEN's suite of smart-grid solutions, such as the Active Network Management (ANM) Systems, Flexible Connections and Constraint Managed Zones (CMZ). Working closely with our Innovations, System Planning, Commercial and Operational Technology teams, our principal aim is to implement solutions which improve network efficiency, decarbonise UK networks and integrate renewable generation for internal and external customers.

What is the Role?

Our Flexible Solutions Delivery Manager will manage, plan and coordinate multiple live projects and associated resources in SSEN. You’ll actively identify and resolve problems, manage risks and deliver successful project completion to allocated budget and customer satisfaction. Through the analysis of network topography and customer design requirements, you’ll determine the best answer / outcome and implement to provide a permanent solution, feeding your knowledge back into the team to provide continuous improvement.

You will support the testing of active systems through review and approval of test specifications designed to prove system functionality across all testing stages. Through testing you’ll ensure the system delivers its requirements as laid out in the design stage and identify any issues. You’ll then suggest and/or approve sustainable solutions that will resolve the root causes and ensure successful project delivery

In collaboration with other Flexible Solutions team members, you’ll construct and review new scheme designs, which include lessons learnt from previous schemes, alterations and extensions, to meet customer requirements in accordance with Company safety, design, budget and quality standards.

What do I need?

Experience within electrical distribution networks is essential and knowledge of testing and commissioning procedures would be advantageous. You’ll have extensive project management experience, with a focus on large or capital project delivery and ideally have an appreciation of PRINCE2, Lean or Agile methodologies. You’ll be proficient in all Microsoft Office applications and have experience in Pi, ENMAC or PowerOn systems.

Bringing excellent communication and reporting skills, your ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines will also be essential. You will be willing to learn and develop new skills and have a positive approach to problem solving. You’ll offer flexibility as the role will require frequent days working away from your base location and due to the need to travel between sites, a full UK driving license is required.
