What is the purpose of the role?
This is a key position in the environment protection team, where you will be contributing to the overall delivery of the surface water outfall programme (SWOP). This will comply with the regulatory targets set by the environment agency (EA) and Ofwat. You will be responsible for ensuring delivery of the SWOP through effective project management of specialist contractors, together with effective EA and local authority (LA) liaison.
What makes this role unique?
This is a varied role but one with a close working relationship with the EA in delivery of this work results in a central role in pollution incident response. You will be providing frontline EA communication, technical support, advice and direction to our operational teams for pollution mitigation and longer-term investigations. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for improving internal communications across Thames Water in respect of environmental issues.
What will this role involve?
Management of Polluted Surface Water Outfall projects. Liaison with local authorities, customers and key stakeholders and the Environment Agency at all operational levels to maintain and improve- regulator satisfaction, including involvement in the Thames Water/ EA open days and workshops. Production of technical reports such as SWOP monthly reports and project final reports for the EA, ecological impact assessments, Incident Response and EA Hotspot reports. The management of contractors to ensure works are undertaken to deliver outputs and compliance with all health and safety requirements. In the event of an incident to act as an advisor for operations and to oversee the monitoring and data acquisition of water quality, as well as incident remedies and the mitigation of contamination. This may involve liaison with stakeholders such as EA, Natural England, LAs, and support to our legal department with provision of mitigation/defence evidence.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone that is preferably educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a scientific or environmental discipline.
You will preferably have knowledge of wastewater sewerage, network and processes as well as managing contractors from a day to day basis.
Experience of demonstrating project management skills is an advantage, as well as having experience of stakeholder/regulator engagement.
A big part of this role is liaising with key stakeholders across the organisation and with the EA and local authority, therefore excellent communication skills are essential.
You will need to build relationships with ease and ensure you are confident in the work/ evidence you are providing them.
You will need to be a self-motivated individual who can use their own initiative while demonstrating good organisation and prioritisation skills required to achieve deadlines and objectives.

You must be IT literate and fully competent on using MS Office suite.
Please note due to the nature and travelling required for this role, you will possess a full, clean UK driving licence.
Thames Water information and salary details
This is a field based role which manages projects predominantly within the M25/London. Location can be flexible depending on the successful candidates' preference. We are offering a salary of up to £39,000 depending on experience. A company car or car allowance will be provided.
