Two of Europe’s most prominent and innovative engineering and construction companies – Laing O’Rourke and Murphy – have come together to form LM, a powerful joint venture, supporting the growing number of major transport infrastructure projects across the UK.
Both organisations are market leaders in high-speed rail delivery, tunnelling, bridge construction, civil engineering, offsite manufacturing and digital engineering.
LM, along with Fusion JV and CS JV, have been awarded the enabling works for High Speed Two. Delivering the essential early works will include archaeology, site clearance and setting up construction compounds – ahead of the start of the main civil engineering work.
The £900 million enabling works contracts cover the whole of Phase One, from London to Birmingham and the connection to the West Coast Main line at Handsacre in Staffordshire
Main purpose of role:
Provide environmental assurance and support for work undertaken by LM to ensure that work packages are designed and delivered in accordance with the HS2 environment contract requirements.
Key responsibilities and duties:
Provide comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the HS2 contract requirements relating to environmental management
Identify opportunities for implementing best practice and innovation to achieve cost and programme efficiencies and risk mitigation. Record achievements in best practice case studies
Provide a main point of contact for project managers for allocated work packages
Provide a main point of contact for the client environment team for allocated work packages
Lead and coordinate communications with external stakeholders in relation to HS2 environmental contract requirements, including consent granting bodies
Support the initial identification of environmental requirements and deliverables for work packages for inclusion in requests for scope and price from DJV and other suppliers
Provide a main point of contact for DJV and other suppliers in relation to the ongoing identification and delivery of environmental deliverables throughout the CMO, design phase and delivery
Review all deliverables against HS2 environmental contract requirements and provide assurance in accordance with LM management processes
Undertake assurance in accordance with LM management processes including document control, audit, non-conformance, surveillance inspections and incidents
Qualifications and training:
Degree or equivalent in environmental related subjects
IEMA practitioner or equivalent
Excellent interpersonal skills
Experience in being able to interpret complex sets of information in a project management setting
Five years’ experience in construction, project management, or environmental consultancy
Chartered Environmentalist and FIEMA or equivalent
Experience in using GIS and document management systems
Project management qualification such as APMP or PRINCE2
