Engineering Coordinator (Nuclear Island)

Engineering Coordinator (Nuclear), Hinkley Point C (HPC), c.£45k - £50k & Benefits

The Opportunity

#WeAreEDF and are leading the transition to a cleaner, low emission electric future, tackling climate change and helping Britain achieve net zero.

As the first of the UK’s next generation of nuclear power stations, HPC is a vital part of the UK’s future energy strategy and is both of high profile and high complexity. Its delivery will be reliant not only on innovative engineering and construction but also on the strongest of leadership and technical qualities amongst its staff.

The Joint Design Office (JDO) was created by EDF to reinforce Hinkley Point C’s site-based engineering capability to allow for a quicker response to on site engineering queries and problems. Among its main aims, The JDO is committed to managing the changes to Civil, Mechanical and Electrical design during construction according to safety, quality, schedule and cost.

Created with EDF’s new nuclear engineering division (DIPNN UK) and Edvance UK, a primary benefit of this organisation is to save time on construction by having on-site reactive answers and solutions, allowing construction teams to continue their activities with minimal delay. The JDO also protects Responsible Designer teams, in France, and allows them time to focus on core engineering design.

The Person

As the Engineering Coordinator, you will focus on the management, review and acceptance of design packages released for construction, in addition to the management of changes to the design requested during the construction phase of the works.

Reporting to the Nuclear Island (NI) Area Engineering Manager, you will act as the interface between the design and engineering teams to oversee the delivery of works in real-time, facilitating changes quickly to ensure compliance with the project schedule.

You will be accountable for the following main responsibilities:

• Assist the Joint Design Office in monitoring and ensuring delivery on all open points and construction changes

• Oversee updates and changes to the overall design across MEH, Electrical and Civil disciplines

• Attend readiness reviews of Design Packages released for construction

• Work closely with design, contractor and construction teams to maintain technical quality and safety

• Report and facilitate the resolution of potential risks and technical or functional issues

The Skills

You will be able to demonstrate the following:

• Degree qualified or equivalent in an engineering discipline (preferably Civil, Mechanical or Electrical)

• Experience of coordinating multiple disciplines within an engineering setting

• Experience in design, drafting and/ or civil construction

• Excellent technical knowledge of the engineering sector, with the ability to work with minimal supervision
