We are currently recruiting for a Bridge Engineer to join our Chelmsford Bridges and Structures team, which has an established track record of successfully delivering a wide range of transport structures schemes.
Our modern office immediately adjacent to the railway station in the heart of Chelmsford has good transport links being only 35 minutes from London. In addition to a large bridges and structures team of circa 30 staff, it also accommodates busy geotechnical engineering, development and transportation planning and development engineering teams. We are now looking to enhance and grow the bridges and structures team with individuals with a sound technical background and who share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload.
The bridges and structures team workload ranges from feasibility studies to scheme designs, detailed designs, assessments, inspections, construction support and management services on a wide range of bridges and associated railway infrastructure schemes. The team is involved in local, national and international work with a variety of clients both from the public and private sector including design & build partnerships with contractors.
A list of some of the current projects which the Chelmsford Office is working on includes:
LoHAC North-West. - London Highways Alliance Contract is a long-term commission under which AECOM together with FM Conway is responsible for maintaining all Transport for London (TfL) highway structures in the North-West area of London.
CAFA rail bridge inspection and assessment. Long-term commission with bridge sites located on the Anglia, LNE and LNW routes.
HS2 Phase 2b
London Local Boroughs – working for many Boroughs including LB Bromley, LB Southwark, LB Ealing, LB Kingston. We are responsible for the inspection and maintenance of highway structures.
Wessex Capacity Programme
Suffolk Highways Contract – Provider of professional services to Kier including bridge inspections and assessments, bridge strengthening and bridge renewals.
As a Bridge Engineer, you will have the following daily responsibilities:
Undertake rail and road bridges and associated structural engineering schemes from inspection and assessment, feasibility through to detailed design.
Assist with supervision of Graduate Engineers and Technicians as appropriate.
Assist with preparation of technical documentation through to client sign off of Technical Approval documentation.
Hands on technical design on road and/or rail structures.
Experience with bridge and related structural inspection assessment and design schemes.
Knowledge of Eurocodes, British Standards and assessment codes.
Experience in the design of concrete, steel, timber and masonry structures.Working knowledge of AutoCad.
Design and project management experience delivering to quality, time and budget.
Experience in road, rail and water bridge projects.
Experience in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
High level technical skills in current inspection, assessment and design and be able to assist teams of graduate and technicians in such projects.
Understanding of project Health and Safety responsibilities including compliance with CDM legislation.
Degree educated or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Bridge, Civil or Structural Engineering.
MSc level or equivalent in Civil/Structural Engineering.
Graduate Member with ICE and IStructE and proven commitment to gaining Chartership.
