Job Description

Shift Support Engineer

Role Purpose

To act as the central person for the delivery of all the reliability engineering functions within the department. This is a wide and varied range of activities that cover all the technical requirements expected from the Engineering department.

This role requires close working with your nominated shift team to be able to effectively resolve shift technical issues and support the operational running of the production area from a Breakdown, Speed Loss and Minor Stops perspective using your technical intellect.

This role will be required to manage and co-ordinate engineering activities on shift across all work fronts on site and will be responsible for clear and accurate information and communication to the production responsible shift manager or cell leaders.

Outside of breakdown events you are expected to maintain all the departmental standards in line with 5S requirements and complete planned maintenance activities through our CMMS system. The role will lead the BDA completion and co-ordinate with production on the investigation of issues effecting performance on shift.

In this role you will be expected to support all the departmental reliability processes and lead PM Pillar critical Kaizen projects or Loss Reduction Groups. Through strict adherence to the work order process, you be responsible for effective technical communication within and across shifts and ensure the reliability supervisor is fed all necessary information to make rapid and effective decisions on plant interventions. From time to time there may be a requirement to flex on shifts to facilitate investigations or support breakdown response for periods of high production activities or periods of high planned maintenance activities.

Main responsibilities

Fix breakdowns when there occur and action preventive measure to prevent re-occurrence. Support the operations team in the reduction of minor stoppages or speed losses on equipment. Form key working relationship with Shift Manager / Cell Leaders / Cell Coaches on all work fronts. Working with the Reliability Supervisor to ensure the creation and delivery of a maintenance activity plan on a weekly basis incorporating Planned Maintenance, Service Maintenance, corrective maintenance, ad-hoc maintenance work orders and investigatory work for projects. Member of the PM Pillar team Compliance with all departmental TPM processes. Technical accountabilities on shift for problem resolution and effective communication Working with shift teams to complete BDA’s within the team. Supports the Reliability Supervisor in the procurement process. Provide guidance on the stock management process. 5S in the Workshop champion. The author of the knowledge transfer documentation and technical content of these documents as required as part your Kaizens or Loss Reduction Groups. Raise and close Quality Alerts, BDA’s and department specific Risk Assessments.

Core Activities

Working with the Reliability Supervisor to ensure the creation and delivery of a maintenance activity plan on a weekly basis incorporating Planned Maintenance, Service Maintenance, corrective maintenance, and ad-hoc maintenance work orders. Day to day delivery of the engineering activities on shift. Expert interaction with the CMMS Systems and work order processes. Core member of the PM Pillar team Management of the 5S process daily within the department. Supports the Reliability Supervisor in the procurement process Acts as the technical champion across all areas on plant as and when required. Support the Project Manager on any project requested. Support the reliability team with complex breakdown investigations. Supporting the Quality Alert and BSD processes. Regular and effective relationships with the key shift production personnel to ensure that the information outflow from the shift team is consistent and to the correct level of detail.

Experience Required

HNC Qualification

*

A recognised Apprentice qualification.

*

5 years or more experience within a fast-paced production environment.

*

Experience of TPM is required.

*

Experience of reliability practises within the engineering field.

*

Understanding of process safety requirements within the Engineering Department.

*

Understanding of how to run and manage and effective Works Order process with reporting KPI’s

*

Clear understanding of the Procurement process and use of this process.

*

Managing contractors and organising service contracts.

*

Knowledge of any predictive maintenance techniques is a benefit.

*

Experienced in the analysis of BDA’s and can coach and training methodology to the wider technical team.

*

Advocate for all TPM processes within the department.
