What is the purpose of this role?

We are working for Bradford Metropolitan District Council to upgrade street lighting and help Bradford to develop as a smart city. We will provide services to survey the 56,500 street lighting assets, provide design for 53,700 units and replace 48,300 existing street lights with energy efficient LED luminaires. As part of the overall scope there will also be approximately 17,000 lighting column replacements and 7500 concrete lighting columns fitted with steel sleeves.

In this role you will play a key part in the replacement of all the existing street lights across the Bradford district with Smart LEDs which are controlled remotely through a CMS network. You will be involved in the safe disconnection of old equipment as well as the fitting, connection and testing of new lanterns and all associated wiring.

What will this role involve?

* Working in a team of two with responsibility for one Operative

* Install all new electrical equipment conforming to HEA and IEE 17th Edition wiring regulations

* Carry out electrical inspection tests and install electrical equipment

* Make off SWA/PVC insulated cable

* Record test results using hand held computer

* Commissioning of new lighting columns/bollards/lit signs

* Take part in out of hours services on a planned basis

* Other maintenance tasks as required

* Provide support to other Amey contracts where necessary

* Responsibility for the security of plant, tools and materials; the safe use of vehicles and the wearing of all PPE

* Be Responsible for own health and safety and that of the public

* Play your part in the achievement of team performance targets

* The work is carried out outdoors hence you will be working in an environment of varying weather conditions and temperatures

* The post holder will attend all training deemed appropriate, which may require occasional overnight stays, and will be expected to attend regular tool box talks.

What are we looking for?

* Experienced working with electrical installations within the public realm & highways

* Must be able to work outdoors in challenging weather conditions

* Driving Licence (C/C1 Driving Licence desirable but not essential)

* Relevant CSCS / ECS Card

* City & Guilds Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Installation

* City & Guilds Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Inspection and Testing

* Experienced and certified with the use and operation of MEWPS up to 12m

* Experienced and competent with STHIL saws & other Power Tools

* Able to undertake manual works including digging by hand and cable pulling

* Able to produce electronic reports / site diary of works undertaken
