Job Description

We are looking for an Electrical Systems Engineer to join Airbus Defence & Space in Portsmouth. You will join our Telecom Payload System Engineering team, integrated within our Space Engineering group and supporting the Telecom Business Line.

The Telecom Payload System Engineering team is a centre of competence gathering expertise in RF Systems; Electrical Systems; Mechanical & Thermal Systems and EMC. The team provides engineering support to the Portsmouth-based Telecom Payload Team.

The team contributes to the delivery of Telecom payloads flying on Eurostar, OneSat and other third party platforms, as well as supporting studies, R&D and proposals.

The team supports payload design and customisation activities, performance analyses of the telecom mission’s payload and supports the Assembly, Integration and Test group (AIT) at Payload level, Spacecraft level and up to the delivery of the satellite to the customer after the completion of In Orbit Tests.

Your role as Electrical Systems Engineer is positioned within the Payload System Engineers group and supports all projects phases: from proposal to in orbit delivery.

You will be support all aspects related to the payload (PL) electrical subsystem on a given project. In addition to DC, harness and payload equipment support, the role also encompasses solutions related to payload data handling and in particular TM / TC management (encompassing hardware and associated databases).

You will be subject to a BPSS check (including a criminal record check).

Tasks and Responsibilities



Responsible for all matters related to Electrical Subsystems and payload bus (TM/TC management) on the assign project



Supporting each project phase, starting with the customisation which includes contribution to PL equipment specification; Electrical ICDs preparation; TM/TC budget preparation; TC segregation preparation



Actively support the PL equipment supply surveillance phase, including Statement of Compliance review, Non-conformance management; PL equipment test reports reviews and acceptance



Prepare and potentially present electrical systems inputs required for the major milestone reviews with the customer (PDR/CDR)



The last phase of the role in Portsmouth / at the payload stage is supporting the Payload Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) phase: for electrical integration tests (off-load / on-load) and for the support to the deployment; update/maintenance of the TM/TC database. During this phase, you will be the first point of call for the Payload AIT operators working in the clean room for any issue related to the electrical systems; the harness or the bus; including TM/TC DB and platform simulation solutions



After the PL is delivered to the integration site (typically Toulouse), produce the Payload User Manual and support to customer training for the operation of the payload in orbit, while supporting the In Orbit Test (IOT) phase



Continuous liaison and coordination with the electrical system team based in Toulouse and in particular with the electrical architects; the harness team and the team responsible for the TM/TC database

The role requires occasional travel overseas.

Required Skills and Experience



The position is open as a direct entry option for graduates i.e. no previous experience is necessary



Alternatively, an initial experience in the field of Electrical Engineering, being for design or test activities is desirable



A strong motivation for systems engineering in the space industry is a must
