Primary Purpose:

B&V are seeking to strengthen their engineering team in response to an increasing project workload within both their Consultancy and Design and Build / Contracting teams. This includes work on projects with UK Water Companies, several major UK Contractors, the Environment Agency, and other players in the coastal, marine and asset management fields. There may also be opportunities to work on conventional or renewable energy projects, or on international water projects.
Depending on specific project needs, the Electrical Engineer Level 5-6 may be involved in any electrical engineering aspects of delivering projects undertaken by B&V from inception to completion, in either a Consultancy or Contracting role. B&V’s current workload includes design and consultancy services within the Thames and Anglian Water regions, as well as UK and international Design and Build projects, predominantly in the Australia or S.E. Asia region.
Some of the main areas of work are
• LV and HV power system design,
• Grid code applications / new connections
• Standby Generation design / installation and G59/3 compliance
• Harmonics G5/4
• Instrumentation and Control System definition and design including detailed User Requirement Specifications,
• Review of Functional Design Specifications,
• Assessing and designing for Potentially Explosive Atmospheres,
• Functional Safety,
• Earthing and Lightning Risk Assessment.
• Working with sub-contractors, reviewing designs and scope changes.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, with a flexible and dynamic approach. They will also need to be a team player with a pragmatic approach to problem solving and balancing the needs of a variety of project stakeholders with financial and time constraints. They will be expected to deal with a range of project roles and project delivery methods, for example as a consultant providing specialist advice, or within an alliance arrangement with a Contracting partner working together to deliver a specific construction project.
Self-motivated candidates with a flexible approach to project type and location will have the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of roles and take on increasing responsibilities and leadership based on their abilities. B&V has a structured career development policy which allows staff to progress to senior level via either a Technical Specialist or Project Management route.
The Electrical Engineer level 5-6 functions as a technical specialist and/or in a supervisory role, and may have some management and/or administrative responsibilities for a group of engineering staff. They independently develop and apply advanced engineering techniques, concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems. They are responsible for the delivery of assigned projects of medium to high complexity, and as a technical specialist providing knowledge and expertise. They may also be recognized as a key internal reference point for technical guidance due to their competency, and depth and breadth of knowledge.

Full time & Part time will be considered for this role.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Engineering Standards:
Assists in developing, maintaining and updating engineering standards. Interprets and applies B&V Standards, and proactively provides technical guidance on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&V policies. Provides technical guidance to others.

Quality / Continuous Improvement:
Independently applies knowledge and ensures compliance with B&V quality procedures. Establishes related processes, and promotes a culture that is conducive to quality. Provides guidance and direction to others. Supports continuous improvement, change management and risk management efforts.

Engineering Production:
Prepares and accountable for managing engineering design deliverables for complex projects or multiple smaller projects, including electrical engineering schedule, budget performance, quality of engineering solutions/ deliverables, and coordination of design, procurement, and construction support activities. Prepares, checks and approves complex engineering calculations as determined by project needs. Reviews work output of lower grade engineering staff. Orchestrates all technical aspects of complex projects and makes project engineering execution decisions within the bounds determined for the project. Responsible for leading design delivery teams and coordinating multiple discipline design activity, and for establishing an appropriate project work plan.

Project Coordination:
Actively coordinates with all other internal/external team members on complex projects. Typically responsible for defining project schedules for single discipline or may have responsibility for multiple disciplines.

Client Focus:
Responsible for determining identification of key client interests and drivers on projects. Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on complex projects. Works to identify future client needs and how to better position B&V for the future. Typically provides support to business development or pursuit activities.

Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology:
Serves as a technical specialist and has knowledge and skill set to provide consultation and guidance to project teams in a particular practice area. Typically supports multiple projects on the more complex technical challenges. Actively advances knowledge management of the business and provides mentoring. As a subject matter expert, has additional expertise in a technical area, participates in professional societies by presenting papers, participates on technical committees, and assists with code/standard authoring. May serve as the section lead/ senior level technical specialist in a broad area of specialization, or in a narrow but specialized field. Develops and applies advanced engineering concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems. Often supports a division chief engineer or senior engineering management, and is accountable for discipline-specific engineering processes.

Administrative:
Responsibilities typically include supervising group operations and budgets, may also support IT, office administration, and facilities. Ensures policies, procedures, and processes are effectively developed and implemented. Ensures adherence to corporate and division programs, approves timesheets.

Key relationships and personnel for whom this person will be responsible: People Management - (supervision, career development, training, mentoring):
Assists in providing direction to a small/ medium sized team. Typically oversees performance management, career planning, recognition, learning and development. Also responsible for resource management (budgets, tools, processes, project support), and may participate in compensation management, succession planning, disciplinary actions, employee relations and workforce planning. Influences and implements resource management strategy.

Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.
Current knowledge of BS7671.
Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.
CEng required
Power engineering or Instrumentation, Control and Automation design work.
Broad range of electrical engineering design, construction and project implementation.
Ability to balance multiple tasks and achieve deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Must be able to assist and produce well written reports and communicate effectively with team members, sub consultants, clients and other alliance partners.
Good IT skills.
