As Sky grows, we’re seeking a talented leader to manage the Content Platforms & Solutions team responsible for the consistent on-time delivery of high-quality services and the on-going management of these systems in production.

You will:

As a Director of Content Platforms & Solutions, you’ll be responsible for delivering highly available, high performance and high-quality systems that underpin the products and services provided to Sky’s customers. These range of responsibilities span across three core functions:

Vision & Strategy – Be a thoughtful leader able to deliver vision and strategy to fuel new services and platforms for customers in close collaboration with the Sky business divisions. Build a high performing team to develop software and systems that supports this growth and allows the business to efficiently scale.

Design – Be able to translate Sky business requirements into efficient design solutions, platforms and workflow architectures that can be taken as a reference for the industry in terms of reliability, flexibility and efficiency. Work collaboratively and constructively with all other software teams at Sky and ensure the implementation of best development practices.

Delivery – Take responsibility for the development, testing and delivery of high-quality software platforms and solutions that are at the core of different Sky businesses, with clear impact on the Content Supply Chain, Rights Planning and Scheduling, Publishing, Content Distribution and Protection and Advertisement.

In the execution of this role you will be assisted by a team of Program and Project Managers as well as a team of Global Architects, delivering and coordinating major portfolios of projects across Production and Distribution platforms.

Key objectives are:

– Ensure that correct team structure and ownership is in place to meet strict availability and quality KPIs in support of the overall business.
– Provide clear vision and direction that the development team fully get behind and which aligns to overall company direction.
– Understanding and apply software engineering practices to support delivery of systems with technical integrity and efficiency.
– Establish clear roadmaps and objectives, with measures, that demonstrate the engagement of teams and alignment to overall department objectives.
– Employ best practices to accelerate the delivery of the teams through Test driven engineering, continuous integration and continuous delivery.
– Apply Agile & DevOps practices to facility collaboration across multiple development and engineering teams.
– Cooperate with Sky engineering teams in other geographies to drive long-term convergence in terms of selected equipment, platforms and solutions.

As part of the CT&I leadership team you will need to cooperate and manage stakeholders in other teams to achieve your goals that will demand strong personal skills, political awareness and personal credibility.

Track record of providing inspirational leadership to teams and demonstrated leadership qualities such as:
– delegation and empowerment
– coaching for appropriate outcomes
– international exposure and external reputation of best practices for implementing world class solutions into highly demanding environments.

Deep understanding of video platforms and workflows, content processing architectures and an extensive and demonstrable knowledge of the best methods for implementing a world class solution into these domains. This must span the software engineering and systems engineering aspects of the technology, being up to date in the emerging trends.

Software Engineer
Detailed experience in operating software engineering functions that interact heavily with infrastructure engineering. The ability to deep dive into both arenas to help teams resolve issues and challenges whether with production or with design. Not a developer anymore but still with a deep connection to development.

System Engineering
Detailed experience in operating systems engineering functions and the merging trends in maintaining services at 99.999% availability.

Agile Practices
Detailed experience of agile practices and XP development (TDD, DevOps, etc.)

Understanding on current approaches to testing and ownership within engineering teams, when delivering in complex interconnected systems. Particularly around the performance testing needs and how to structure this into the entire development lifecycle.

Organisational Awareness
Experience and knowledge of managing both internal stockholders and counterparts in interfacing organisations. Ability to think of approach beyond establishing traditional support arrangement boundaries for internal service management.
