The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded civil engineer to lead the Civil Infrastructure team at our new Leeds office.

The successful candidate will support the Partners and Leeds Office Leadership in delivering against our ‘Plan for Sustainable Growth’ strategy and play a pivotal role in shaping and growing the business in the Yorkshire area and across the North of England. The expectation is that this role should be a pre-cursor to entry into Membership of the LLP, and therefore the ability to win new business, secure client relationships and build an on-going portfolio of work to support and grow the team will be key.

The role, therefore, requires the ability to quickly, command a considerable presence in the local marketplace, with both technical credibility and business acumen being at the forefront. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow and develop a team of civil engineering professionals. You’ll need to be able to develop and win work, manage the financial aspects of the projects and actively take part in the growth and success of the whole office, with an awareness of all of the disciplines that are available both locally and within the wider practice.

Core responsibilities:

* Participate in business planning for the local group, including identifying the future direction that the team should be pursuing
* Project management, including financial control and optimising utilisation of the team against defined targets for turnover, utilisation, profitability and growth
* Developing new business opportunities and ensure that the team has a sufficient workload to meet targets
* Take the lead on multi-disciplinary bids and projects
* Effectively manage client relationships and increase repeat business
* Overseeing significant projects from conceptual planning stage through to construction
* Identify and execute plans to diversify the client base, win new work and ensure that the practice is at the forefront of consultants in the area
* Ensure all projects within the civil engineering and infrastructure teams are reviewed and completed in a timely and cost effective way and develop key learning points and communicate across the group and/or the wider PBA business

About You

To succeed in this role you’ll need:

* Demonstrable experience in leading a successful team in delivering civil infrastructure solutions
* Strong client facing ethos, can-do attitude and the ability to present complex projects and concepts to all manner of fellow professionals and stakeholders
* You'll have a strong network within the North East / Yorkshire to enable effective relationship and business development opportunities
* Experience of mentoring junior staff and managing projects (budget control, fee letters, invoicing etc.)
* Excellent infrastructure technical design knowledge, chairing client and consultation project meetings and reporting skills
* Preferably experience of working across a broad range of clients including architects, contractors, local authorities and private land developers
* Experience in developing and securing new business opportunities
* Experience of working with clients, both in the public and private sector
* Experience of budget monitoring, change management and fee negotiation
* Excellent communication skills at all levels
