Development Manager - Solar

The Opportunity

EDF Renewables UK (“EDF RUK”) is one of the UK’s leading renewable energy companies, specialising in wind power, battery storage, solar and offshore wind technologies. EDF RUK develops, builds, operates and maintains wind farms and other technologies throughout their lifetime. The EDF RUK portfolio of nearly 1000 MW consists of 35 wind farms including two offshore wind farms, one of the largest operational battery storage units in Europe, and roof top solar projects. EDF RUK is seeking to deliver further growth from organic development activities and acquisition with challenging targets for new renewable projects to 2035.

Join us as a Development Manager leading on the origination and development of new solar PV projects. The role will also include providing general development support to the wider EDF RUK business. Based within the Onshore Wind and Solar PV Directorate you would be positioned within the Development and Consents team which contains ten experienced renewable energy professionals. We are looking for a similar solar experienced development manager within the team.

Day to day you are likely to be involved in the following:

• Originating and developing large scale PV projects through to a project consent.

• Finding and evaluating potential acquisition opportunities

• Sourcing new solar sites through GIS skills, liaising with land agents or other activities.

• Understanding what makes a viable solar PV project and increasing the competiveness of our projects

• Negotiating heads of terms with landowners and subsequent option and lease agreements. Managing all stakeholders including land agents and internal and external legal resources

• Initiating any required environmental and technical assessments to support the project feasibility and consent applications. Managing external consultants who will contribute to these activities.

• Complying with the EDF RUK project governance process including our Business Management System, budgeting and monthly reporting.

• Challenging the business to improve performance

• Understanding and interpreting external solar renewable trends, including the impact of policy and legislative changes

• Representing the Development and Consents Team in key meetings both internally and externally, including dealing with the public, public officials and consultees

• Ensuring that you and those around you work safely to achieve Zero Harm and improve safety culture

The Skills

• Experience in a comparable position

• University Degree in Planning, Engineering or Business. Other appropriate qualifications may be considered

• A knowledge and understanding of renewable energy development, in particular the associated environmental and technical constraints to development

• An broad understanding of the Town and Country, NSIP and Section 36 planning processes in the UK

• Strong team-player with good interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills

• A commitment to ensuring the highest standards of project development, consultation and community relations at all times

• Willing to work on projects throughout the UK, including short stays away from the office

• A commitment to EDF ER’s HSE policies and an understanding of HSE and CDM requirements

• Ability to use GIS software is helpful, although not essential
