About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a DESIGN ENGINEER (HV ELECTRICAL) to join our BB Kilpatrick team to work in MOTHERWELL.

ROLE PURPOSE:

To provide an HV electrical design within time and cost to meet project requirements as well as technically supporting the project to completion.

What you'll be doing

You will have the following accounabilities:

* Design electrical distribution systems up to 33kV.
* Create the following documents;
* Acquisition Specifications
* Project Specifications
* HV&LV Switchgear and Motor Control Centres
* Packaged Substations
* Transformers
* UPS / DC Systems

Calculations

* HV&LV Cable Calculations using hand calcs/spreadsheet and Amtech (Trimble) with at least one of the following:
* ETAP/ERACS/SKM Power Tools.
* HV&LV Earthing calculations using hand calcs/spreadsheet, experience with CDEGS would be advantageous.
* Power System Modelling (Short Circuit, Transient, Loadflow, Arc Flash, Protection)

Reports and Plans

* Design and Quality Plans
* Designers Risk Assessments
* Operating Philosophies
* Basis of Design
* Design Substantiation Reports
* Factory acceptance testing
* Site commissioning and acceptance testing

Detailed installation drawings

* SLD, BCD, schematic, termination & Interlocking diagrams
* Earthing drawings
* Layout GAs
* Input to SCADA, instrumentation, control and monitoring specifications and design.
* Review and check manufacturer documents / information for electrical compliance with project specifications.
* Provide strong technical support and identify innovative and robust solutions.
* Develop and maintain relationships with relevant technical consultants and suppliers.
* Working under minimal supervision on projects with scope to influence / design / maintain policies
* Managing resources to complete assigned projects within time and budget.
* Stakeholder Interaction, attending client meetings, project progress meetings

Who we're looking for

You will have the following qualities and experience:

* Clear focus on collaboration and building relationships with other designers and Project teams to deliver cost effective and acceptable design solutions
* Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and write clearly and succinctly
* Promote innovation and continuous improvement in design.
* Excellent IT Skills are desirable and Microsoft Office is essential. Detailed knowledge of codes of practice and other regulatory material.
* Experience in a broad range of industries such as Petrochemical, Power Generation and Nuclear.
* Experience using SKM power tools is desired
