Our Engine Systems division brings together a range of abilities to support aero-engine manufacturers including Pratt & Whitney, General Electric, Safran and Rolls Royce
At Meggitt, we have spearheaded pioneering applied research and technology programmes to develop next generation turbofan cooling. We create thermal management components which operate reliably in extremes of temperature, pressure and vibration on the engines and airframes of leading military and commercial rotary and fixed wing aircraft

Role Summary

The purpose of the Design Engineer is to design and develop Aircraft Engine Air/Oil System, Thermal Management components with associated components & systems in accordance with company, customer and regulatory requirements
Carry out primary design & performance calculations and evaluations to produce models and design drawings / specifications. Define basic testing parameters which should include preparation of design scheme 3D models and drawings for tender and detailed manufacturing drawings for production utilising the company CAD packages. Support operations with product design & manufacturing issues, and generating and delivering solutions to drive non-conformance, cost and complexity out of the business
Core Responsibilities

* Provides extended expertise in the design, development and testing of mechanical components

* Participates in engineering activities to define product requirements, create designs, perform simulation testing and validation of final hardware components

* Performs mechanical component development and integration, while using Computer-Aided-Design concepts

* Works as part of the Mechanical Engineering Team to meet high level of engineering standards per design specifications

* Uses existing procedures to solve a range of problems; analyzes information and standard practices to make judgments

* Solves a variety of mechanical engineering issues and improves existing designs

* Performs value analysis during the product design phase while optimizing product development costs

* Other responsibilities as assigned
* Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance
* Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

* Experience of monitoring, and delivering against a technical project plan

* Proven engineering capability and experience to create effective engineered solutions

* A comprehensive working knowledge of manufacturing systems, assembly & test

* Configuration and change management

* B/MEng Degree qualified

* 3D CAD & Drafting experience

* Materials and coatings knowledge (aerospace metals)

* Team play, lateral thinking and problem solving skills are essential (demonstrable RCCA skills)

* Technically Articulate – effective communicator (verbal & written) with a good knowledge of Word and Excel are essential

* High work ethic & desire to learn and [Principle] impart learning within the team

* Proven ability to interact at all levels with Internal and external functions; suppliers & customer
