Design Engineer 4

Would you like to play a key role within the Airframe Design Engineering discipline? We currently have a vacancy for a Design Engineer 4 at our site in Brough.

As a Design Engineer 4, you will be responsible for producing the physical product definition against a set of system functional requirements from multiple sources.

The capabilities of Design Engineers comprise a range of sub-skills in the creation of solutions to satisfy conceptual, preliminary definition and detail design, verification/compliance, build/assembly and in-service support lifecycle phases. Design deliveries are produced for manufacturing and through-life upgrades

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary integrated product development environment influencing adjacent Airframe and Systems disciplines to create a world beating product.

Your main responsibilities as a Design Engineer 4 will involve:

Being based around the creation and discharge of composite material structural designs

Having knowledge of other design capabilities - concept and configuration design, metallic structural designs, build and in-service design support, surface definition, processes and procedures

Being a team leader - checking and approving Design deliverables, managing Design tasks to meet design review criteria and programme schedules, supervising others including direct, indirect and contractor staff, allocating and scheduling tasks and resource under their control to achieve business objectives

Producing the physical product definition against a set of system functional requirements from multiple sources

Using your capabilities as a Design Engineer to comprise a range of sub-skills in the creation of solutions to satisfy conceptual, preliminary definition and detail design, verification/compliance, build/assembly and in-service support lifecycle phases

Completing design deliveries that are produced for manufacturing and through-life upgrades

Using a variety of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) applications toolset versions are used in the creation and upgrades of design definition to achieve customer requirements, in compliance with functional and business processes.

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Hold a HND/HNC in engineering or equivalent experience held, a technical/craft based apprenticeship alongside this would be beneficial

Proven experience of being able to interpret engineering data and requirements and convert them into a Design solution, especially with regards to composite material components

Proven experience of using tools such as CATIA v5 CAD system and a Product Manager toolset etc. at a higher level

Proven experience of leading teams and signing off design deliverables within either an Aerospace, Aeronautical, Fastjet, Military, Automotive and/or Transportation environment

Proven experience of solving both engineering problems and staff issues by effective examination and analysis of information and selection of optimized solutions.

Proven ability to work within a fast-paced environment

Desirable:

A very strong background within airframe design

Strong knowledge of BAE SYSTEMS manufacturing process specifications

Any previous work experience with Typhoon, Hawk and/or F35

A very strong background in other airframe related disciplines - Manufacture/ Process Engineering / Jig and Tool Design – where the candidate held a senior role

Experience in leading teams in other Engineering disciplines

Candidates with non-airframe Design experience – car, maritime and rail industries – where experience in interpreting complex project and safety requirements is regularly exercised

This will allow you to produce reports, specifications and processes, whilst being able to provide technical information in a way that is easy to understand. You will also be analytical, interpretive and have evaluative thinking, this will allow you to demonstrate your strong team skills.
