About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Design Delivery Manager to join our Power Transmission & Distribution business based in Dartford.

Role purpose

* Provide design mangement leadership to the team;
* To work within the BB Cable Design and Engineering Team supporting all internal and external clients that call on our team requiring cable design services on T&D, Traction, Rail and Utilities projects;
* Delivering cable system designs for a portfolio of projects of single and multi-disciple projects;
* Successfully running a design office comprising 25 plus design staff;
* Point of contract for all tenders and project design requirements;
* Managing a multinational multi ethenic,and multi-cultural team of engineers and CAD technicians;
* Resource allocation for portfolio of cable design projects and overall utilisation of the departmental resources;
* Create and manage the execution of the agreed strategy for successful delivery of the objectives for the department;
* Day to governance of the office;
* Ensure compliance with Balfour Beatty Processes and procedures.

What you'll be doing

As a Design Delivery Manager, your main responsibilities are as follows:

* Leadership and management of a multi-discipline team of engineers ideally cable design team;
* Production and management of departmental engineering budgets and schedules;
* Allocation of resource for projects design teams, work with other DDMs to assign resource to alignm with business needs;
* Ensure the design intent and solution requirements are adhered to during the detailed design and construction phases;
* Implement change control processes to track and manage the development of the engineering element of a project to ensure all budgetary, programme and scope changes are correctly managed;
* Ensure that all engineering outputs provided are in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation, documented Business Processes, Quality Management Systems & best practice e.g. checked and verified: calculations, drawings, specifications, and compliance with company standards;
* Support the Head of Engineering by deputising when requested and disseminating information through briefings;
* Overall Line management of team including PDRs.

Who we're looking for

The following qualities and experience are essential:

* Degree in Electrical Engineering;
* C.Eng. or equivalent;
* Extensive experience in the design of PT&D design Projects;
* Senior to Principal Engineer level of experience in design of cable networks gained within a utility, consultancy or contracting organisation in UK;
* Experience in a management position leading a team of 20 plus engineers delivering portfolio of cable design projects for major Utility in the UK;
* Experience of delivering design for multi disciple projects, including Substations, Cables and Overheadlines;
* A good understanding of cable installation and design-construction interface;
* Strong people management and leadership skills;
* Strong communication skills;
* Proficiency of Electronic Document Systems (BC, ProjectWise etc.);
* Strong understanding of the BIM digital environment (MIDP, TIDP etc.);
* Experience in running design projects in Quality and SHEQ environments;
* Good understanding of CDM, and Risk management within design process;
* Good commercial acumen;
* A good team player.
