Job Summary

Transit Director, Europe

The primary objective of the role will be to help grow the Europe Region in Transit. Linking our global capabilities, leading international teams to secure opportunities and deliver major transit programmes. This is a client facing role which requires adaptation to the requirements of different countries and local markets across Continental Europe. The post holder will work collaboratively with the Region management team to strengthen and grow relevant rail engineering skill sets as pipeline and programme demands dictate – linking AECOM’s capabilities and experience locally and globally into winning and delivering Transit projects.

Strategic direction, people leadership, effective relationships with external clients, strong communication skills, and a good understanding of rail and transit engineering challenges and how we can address them are essential requirements for success.

The key features of the role are:

*

Work with the Europe Region sector management team in a matrix role linking circa 1500 sector focused staff across the region into the Global Transportation Business Line.

*

Support the development and implementation of the Global Transit Strategic plan.

*

Actively participate in the winning of work, developing the market with the Regional management team and the Global Business Line, to create the necessary pipeline of work to support continuing growth. Support the positioning and delivery of bids through early client engagement, translating win themes into winning bid submissions together with regional bid teams

*

Support the identification of areas of skill set development in transit across Europe and identify recruitment and growth in these areas with the Region

*

Support the co-ordination of transit capabilities, technical leadership, opportunity pipelines, and major programme delivery with the Region and Technical Practice groups

*

Promote and ensure compliance and best in practice with respect to both worker & workplace and project health & safety. Support the development and continued implementation of a strong safety culture through leadership activities including management safety observations, workplace safety conversations etc.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategic Direction

*

Articulate vision for transit within AECOM, with key clients and across the transit community

*

Provide industry leadership; be thought leader on all matters transit, particularly with outside parties

*

Champion transit in collaboration with other business lines and various geographies

*

Develop and deliver against the Global Transit Strategy in the Region

Client Engagement and Work Winning

*

Drive client engagement with the region and key client account managers. Have a detailed understanding of the local market including actions plans for top pursuits.

*

Actively lead key major pursuits and ensure that our bidding conforms to best practice

*

Work with the Regional Leadership and Global Business Line team to ensure we have effective marketing and brand awareness regionally.

*

Contribute to market sector and client intelligence and market research.

*

Create unique value propositions and differentiators to create preference for AECOM in the market sector.

Safety for Life

* Maintain a culture of safety. Be a visible leader for AECOM’s Safeguard value – safety, wellbeing and professional integrity.

Staff and Skill Development

*

With the Region and Technical Practice leads, ensure there is strong capability in all areas of opportunity and future revenues, align to strategic investments in capability. Identify and respond to skill gaps

*

Technical: identify key project managers for priority opportunities/projects, in consultation with Regional Business Line Leaders and Regional Executives

Minimum Requirements

*

In depth knowledge of the rail and transit business in the region and be recognised as a leader in the market

*

Excellent client relations in key countries in the EU, Norway, Israel, UK.

*

Relevant professional qualifications to reflect the level of seniority of the role

*

A leader and champion of the business and a good communicator

*

An experienced Project Delivery Director and successful Bid Director

*

Ability to implement new processes and procedures

*

Financially astute and able to monitor and report financial progress

Preferred Qualifications

*

In depth knowledge of the Rail business in the region and be recognised as the local leader

*

Relevant professional qualifications to reflect the level of seniority of the role

*

A leader and champion of the business and a good communicator

*

An experienced Project Delivery Director and successful Bid Director

*

Ability to implement new processes and procedures

*

Financially astute and able to monitor and report financial progress.
