The Cyber Solutions Division of Northrop Grumman are seeking talented Data Scientist/ Developers at all levels to join our team in London, working within a rapidly growing environment.

You will work in small scrum teams to Agile principles, with very enthusiastic people, solving challenging and complex delivery problems to the business. For this position you must be able to hold and maintain UK Government clearances.

How you will make a difference

As a Data Scientist you will be building, developing, interpreting and maintaining data analytic services. You will also contribute toward consultancy and expertise on statistical and mathematical concepts for the broader Data Science & Machine Learning community.

You will participate in building relationships with the customer, and understand their solution space and aiding in the winning of new work. You will work directly with customers to understand and elicit their business needs and datasets, and will be able to understand how to leverage data to provide mission outcomes. You will be instrumental in driving an analytical and data-driven culture, both within Northrop Grumman and our customers.

Essential criteria: A degree in a numerate discipline, or significant relevant industrial experience Experience in data science and machine learning The proven ability to use a combined knowledge of computer science, modelling, statistics, analytics and mathematics to solve problems; The ability to develop solutions in at least one of: R, Scala, Java, Python, C/C++, Clojure, F#, Haskell, Go, MATLAB, Mathematica Ability to work without supervision and to organize, prioritise, delegate and complete multiple tasks on an ongoing basis Knowledge of relevant data science and machine learning libraries relevant to language, such as Scikit-learn and Spacy Familiarity with software engineering processes such as version control and Agile methodologies The ability to distil customer requirements into work packages, and take responsibility for the delivery of those work packages Ability to communicate effectively and ideally possess good presentation skills

Desirable criteria: Experience of ‘big data’ tools and techniques such as MapReduce, Elastic, Hadoop, HBase, Accumulo Experience with using libraries such as D3 to provide visualisations Able to liaise with software engineering teams in order to take proof-of-concept experiments into a production environment Knowledge in at least one machine learning area, and working on big data problems, whether in industry or academia Proven knowledge of modelling (e.g. cluster analysis, decision trees, regression, propensity modelling, Bayesian). Some experience within creation of statistical models and comfortable working with imperfect data
