Job Description Role Synopsis:

The
Data Centre Services Manager
is responsible for the development and delivery of KPMG’s UK Data Centre service.
The role will be required to work across the IT
organisation
to translate business requirements for IT services into technical deliverables within KPMG’s Data Centre facilities. The role will require a thorough understanding of industry trends and opportunities and will be expected to apply these to the development of the Data Centre strategy for the UK firm.

The DCSM is expected to ensure appropriate processes are applied to the Data Centre facilities and will be accountable for the day to day quality of the physical environments.
There will be a focus on managing relationships across the technical and project teams within the department, to ensure our Data Centre capability (capacity, design and environment) is considered in product selection and IT strategy

The role encapsulates both the physical structure of the facilities as well as the IT hardware that resides within and requires an expert with knowledge of operating system, server, storage and networking technologies. “Ownership” of the physical server UK estate is a primary responsibility of the position and will be directly involved in coordinating any installs, moves, changes and break/fix of physical assets.

The role is responsible for managing IT Services’ relationship with external co-location facility providers.
The role also interacts with KPMG’s internal workplace engineering team for the management of regional IT rooms across the UK.

This role is responsible for the management of the Data Centre Engineering team (5) and inputs into ITS Service Operations functions, in particular Capacity Management and IT Service Continuity Management.

Some travel is required in this role, mainly in the South East.

Key Accountabilities:

They are accountable for ensuring the service provided through the team is in line with business expectations and delivers sustainable performance and availability.

Specific responsibilities include:

Develop and maintain the strategy for the Data Centre provision for KPMG and its continual improvement

-

Manage the relationship, service and contract with the 3rd party Data Centre provider to KPMG and hardware providers.

-

Manage relationships with Facilities to ensure the effective maintenance of the Data Centre and all regional IT Rooms.

-

Manage the Data Centre power and space budgets, providing clear forecasts of requirement against capacity (working alongside the Capacity Management function)

-

Work closely with other IT Services teams to understand and influence decisions dependent on Data Centre services

-

Maintain the day to day operational state of the Data Centres, regional IT rooms and UAT environments (daily reports and escalation of issues as deemed necessary) and operational state of the server hardware platforms across the UK estate

-

Accountability for, on behalf of ITS, ensuring adherence to processes, access to all Data Centres
(including Risk Assessments and Method Statements).

Performance management of team

-

Provide cover between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00 Monday to Friday shift rota pattern

-

To work closely and provide support for the Infrastructure Operations Manage

Essential Criteria

-

Experience of service operations management with particular focus on development and implementation of ITIL processes

-

Ability to report at senior level across multiple processes, focusing on the key operational data

-

Experience of capacity and availability management and reporting

-

Proven experience in successfully managing small teams (c. 3-5) in a technical environment

-

Experience of establishing full change and release processes and management across a large and complex IT enterprise

-

Relevant Data Centre industry qualification – e.g. CNET or Uptime Institute

-

Experience of operating Data Centres on a day to day basis

-

Coordinating hardware Installs, Moves and Changes within a Data Centre environment.

-

Experience of leading BCP\\DR processes with the ability to ensure processes are relevant to critical business requirements in the event of an emergency

-

Ability to develop and leverage relationships with internal and external stakeholders

-

Ability to work under pressure dealing with a high volume of change

-

Experience of budgeting and forecasting

-

Managing milestones, quality standards

-

Managing partner/suppliers/clients

-

Decision maker, able to act on own initiative but also able ask for guidance when appropriate

Experienced in planning, facilitating, and managing change.

Experience of working in a matrixed, dual reporting organisation where not all resources are directly owned by you

Previous IT operational management experience is key, preferably within a large enterprise

-

Experienced in a wide base of technologies especially knowledge of server hardware platforms

-

Evident English communications skills, written and verbal, used across a wide range of internal and external senior stakeholders
