Cost / RAID Group Head

A career that will deliver change. Join us and help Britain achieve Net Zero.

Would you like to be part of Nuclear Decommissioning?

We’re recruiting for people to join us on the next exciting phase of our journey. We’re offering multiple opportunities across a range of disciplines for those who relish working in a commercially-driven environment, on major customer contracts. You could be a seasoned project or programme management specialist working in the nuclear or non-nuclear parts of our business, have skills in commercial management or finance, or are used to working as an intelligent customer for technical disciplines.

The Opportunity

Nuclear Decommissioning

Cost/Raid Group Head. Multiple locations to include; Barnwood - Gloucester, East Kilbride - Glasgow, Hunterston - North Ayrshire, Heysham - Lancashire, Hartlepool - County Durham or Hinkley B – Somerset. Competitive salary & benefits. When nuclear stations reach the end of their generating capability they move into the next phase of their lives, which is to remove the fuel and to prepare for decommissioning.

The Cost/RAID Group Head will lead the team of Cost Engineers, Estimators, QSs and RAID engineers to develop, control, monitor, analyse and report on cost related aspects for designated projects within a Portfolio.

They will work closely with the Planning and Assurance Group Heads to ensure that the delivery plans contain accurate and timely cost information and that the delivery organisation has accurate and timely business information to report internally and externally to Stakeholders. They will support efficient monthly cost recovery and the development of future submissions to external Stakeholders. They will support sanction submissions as well as preparatory work for contract placement.

The Person

This rewarding opportunity is responsible for safe, efficient and effective delivery of the cost and estimate areas for the Decommissioning Programme. Provide insight into the Basis of Estimate and any changes or trends discovered through its maintenance.

Set to work the team of cost engineers both in the central team and at the stations. This is likely to be done in conjunction with station leads who will work collaboratively with central Cost/Raid Group. The central Cost/RAID Group is expected to be sized at around 10 team members of varying technical disciplines. Manage the development of the team to ensure appropriate skills coverage to deliver the groups remit and to provide for succession management.

Implement and maintain an effective Basis of Estimate for the DP. This will include identification of improvements required to improve efficient monthly management of submissions for cost recovery to the NLF, structures and responses to feedback from the customers of DP finance information.

Work effectively with other members of the DP PMO team – in particular the Planning Group Head to ensure that an integrated, cost loaded schedule is available to provide information to ND stakeholders with EDF and externally.

Act as the principal point of contact for questions relating to the DP Basis of Estimate, finance and cost reporting outputs acknowledging that specific enquiries may be delegated to the relevant area leads as appropriate.

Provide support and intelligence to inform the development of future ALR2 submissions to the NDA to ensure the full scope of eligible costs can be recovered by EDF.

Should be articulate and able to communicate effectively with Stakeholders both within the business (as outlined in the interactions list above) and externally (NDA, NLF and Regulatory contacts).

Manage the team delivering RAID services to the DPP. Ensure RAID reporting is delivered in a routine and robust manner and that appropriate intelligence is gained from analysis of Risk positioning.

The Skills

Applicants are invited to apply for this exciting opportunity that are HND or degree educated, ideally in engineering or equivalent technical qualification, or project management/controls discipline.

A clear communicator, able to provide insight on finance information to non-practitioners and practitioners alike. Able to communicate to both internal and external Stakeholders effectively including the folloiwng;

* Familiar with the construction and operation of Primavera and the cost loading elements of this tool.

* Expert in EDF’s use of SAP to manage and control cost information in conjunction with work delivery.

* Well versed in the mechanisms used by EDF to engage with NLF to recover qualifying costs for work delivered by EDF.

* Demonstrable experience in management of teams.

* Well versed in modern project management techniques within complex, multi-functional organisations and EDFs processes for delivery of projects.

* Demonstrable record of success in delivering cost support in an operational environment, preferably nuclear.
