Nissan has one of the most comprehensive European presences of any overseas manufacturer, employing more than 17,000 staff across locally-based Design, Research & Development, Manufacturing, Logistics, Purchasing and Sales & Marketing operations. Total production in the UK alone is now over 9 million vehicles including award-winning crossovers, commercial vehicles and the Nissan LEAF, the world’s most popular electric vehicle.

We are an ambitious organisation, and we are looking for an equally ambitious and innovative Cost Engineer to join our dynamic Cost Benchmarking & Budget Setting team. Nissan is positioned to become the most desirable Asian brand in Europe, and we need your help to get there.

Your responsibilities will include:

Cost estimation for component piece cost and vendor tooling (absolute & fluctuation)
Budget setting by part for full programmes
Support global Product Economic Control (PEC) activities
Generation of cost reduction ideas

As you would expect, being a global organisation, working cross functionally across the business (inc R&D, Product Planning & Market Intelligence) will be an essential part of the role.

Your background will include:

A strong background in industrial or process engineering within a volume manufacturing environment, however we’d still like to hear from applicants from other disciplines i.e. toolmaking
A good understanding of how components are manufactured.
An understanding of how to build cost.
Specialist manufacturing process knowledge such as metal stamping, plastic injection moulding, metal forming, machining, casting, assembly etc. and this is preferably in an automotive environment!
You need to be a self-motivated character with the ability to work in a team and on your own.
You’ll need a flexible approach to the workload as there are workload fluctuations.

We’re looking for people who want to build a solid career with us. Nissan has invested heavily in the UK with the production of the new X-Trail, Qashqai and LEAF taking place in Sunderland so we are here to stay; and we’re hoping you will join us for the ride. We offer competitive salaries dependent on the experience you bring, and will pay you for any overtime you work over your contracted 39 hours per week.

What’s more, we believe you’ll like working with us because of our valued culture. We pride ourselves on being a transparent, cross-cultural and ambitious business.

Nissan is diverse at every level with over 37 nationalities represented at our global headquarters alone.

It's this diverse workforce that makes us interesting. We thrive off new thinking and differing perspectives. That's why we encourage and take full advantage of the mix backgrounds, genders, nationalities, ages, and lifestyles found among our employees.

This means our people are representative of the personalities found within the communities where we do business around the world. This makes us powerful. So if "the power comes from inside", then our diversity defines the strength of that power.

We want you to challenge the norm and contribute to improvement whether you’ve been here ten days or ten years, so now to join the Cost Benchmarking & Budget Setting team!
