Job Title: Advanced Research Engineer – IIoT Systems Engineer

Grade: ARE

Duration of Contract: Permanent

Reporting To: Controls and Connectivity Technology Manager Job Purpose: • The main purpose of this role is to support the development and adoption of Industrial Internet of Things technology through development of technology and service ecosystems, capture of end user requirements, engagement with

technology adoption programs, creative problem
solving, IIoT systems architecting and
deployment. • The post holder is expected to contribute to
Intelligent Automation/Digital
Manufacturing/Industry 4.0 related projects and
strategy. • The post holder is expected to strongly support
leadership activities in MTC’s office in Liverpool
relevant to the IIoT technology area. • The post holder is expected to manage their
own projects, support project management by
the creation and maintenance of project plans,
status reports, and conduct risk reviews in line
with MTC’s best practices.

Duties & Responsibilities: • Largely independent supply of project’s technical deliverables • Provide technical and sub-team leadership to others in areas of expertise; • Technical leadership and management of project and/or work package portfolio >£100K; • Lead project proposal and business case writing for small and medium projects; • Lead technical liaison with customer during project delivery; • Lead engagement with new existing customers
to win repeat business; • Lead engagement with technology and service
partners to build relevant technology
ecosystems; • Generation of new project ideas in alignment
with the theme's strategy; • Own career development through mentoring,
coaching and training courses; • Provide technical support to less experienced
engineers;
Other: • Good knowledge and demonstrable experience in applied IoT technologies in an industrial (or
relevant) environment; • Good level of awareness and desirable
experience in intelligent automation and/or
digital manufacturing technologies and
requirements; • Experience with high level programming
languages such as Java, C#, and C++; • Excellent research skills; • Excellent report writing skills; • Excellent presentation skills; • Relevant degree; Masters, PhD or industrial
experience is desirable; • Chartered or working towards professional
qualification is desirable; • Demonstrable project management skills; • Experience in external customer and partner
engagement is desirable.
Key Deliverables: • The post holder will be responsible for delivering
projects related to digital manufacturing and
intelligent automation, incorporating IoT
technologies for mid to high technology
readiness (TRL4-7) applications. • Specific project objectives will be provided by
the Technology Manager once the candidate is
