About the Department

Our Procurement & Commercial Team are responsible for helping the business to procure services and materials in a timely and cost-effective manner. We work right across the SSE Group, ensuring our businesses get the best possible service and value from our supplier network, as well as ensuring all service providers are compliant and continue to meet contractual obligations and business need.

What is the Role?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Quantity Surveyor (Connections Contract Manager) to join our Distribution Procurement and Commercial team. You will be responsible for the commercial management and administration of contracts across a range of connections projects in our Networks business to ensure successful delivery in accordance with time, cost and quality. This involves but is not limited to estimating, cost & budget management, payment & expenditure management, contract administration, dispute resolution and general commercial guidance and support as required.

You'll be an enthusiastic individual who will focus on providing the necessary pre and post contract quantity surveying/commercial support on a range of one-off projects and programmes of work. You will be able to combine strong commercial acumen with well-developed interpersonal, problem-solving, communication and negotiation skills, and have experience delivering programmes of work and one-off projects. Reporting to the Procurement and Commercial Manager, you'll support the Project Managers and Procurement Managers to deliver strategies and contracts to support the connections business goals and objectives.

You'll also support the delivery of departmental KPIs and objectives such as savings in total cost of ownership, value engineering and safety performance.

What do I need?

You'll be able to analyse and interpret numerical data and have highly developed contract drafting and writing skills, from experience gained through interpreting construction contracts. Excellent IT skills are essential including knowledge of all MS Office applications, knowledge of Emptoris and Oracle purchase systems would be beneficial.

You'll also have a good working knowledge of NEC conditions of contract, along with experience in estimating, cost and budget management, contract administration and payment and expenditure management. We would also be keen to hear from candidates from a Utilities or Civil background.

Finally, a degree in Quantity Surveying is required for this position, while MRICS professional qualifications are desirable
