Murphy Group are currently recruiting a Contractor’s Engineering Manager (CEM) who will have overall accountability for all engineering activities applicable to that specific contract including those undertaken by sub-contracted organisations. The CEM may also act as the Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) for a single engineering discipline.

We have been awarded the single contractor multi-disciplinary CP6 framework to maintain and renew the Anglia route for Network Rail. This is a significant step forward in meeting our ten year plan and will help us build scale, fuel and resilience.

The Anglia route is the second busiest in the UK and covers 1,700 miles of track from London Liverpool Street to Norfolk. It takes 63.6 million passenger journeys a year. There are 3,177 services a day through 320 stations. The framework award is one of the most substantial of Network Rail's CP6 contracts following the Office of Rail and Road's final determination for £35bn of funding for rail maintenance and renewals.

This framework will include complex and challenging works covering all Renewals for the route, including Bridge Replacements/Refurbishments/Strengthening; Earthworks; Overhead Electrified Lines; Power Upgrades and Station Enhancements.

Key Responsibilities

* Undertake CEM duties in accordance with Network Rail standard NR/L2/INI/02009

* Accountable for all design and/or construction as applicable to the specified works

* Nominate and oversee all CREs (Contractor’s Responsible Engineer’s) for each project

* Implement an IDC (Interdisciplinary Design Check) process for all design documentation which has an interface with other engineering disciplines

* Authorise all engineering deliverables before submission to the client approved by the CEM

* Approve all design as ‘Approved For Construction’ following completion of the acceptance process

* Implement a risk management process that: identifies and mitigates risk; communicates details of unmitigated risk; and supports the clients project Risk Log

* Produce one or more Certificates of Compliance with the applicable technical specifications for the works

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

* Chartered Engineer (preferred)

* Relevant engineering degree qualified

* Extensive experience in rail engineering and design assurance

* Design Management experience of at least 10 years (preferred)

* Construction experience of at least 15 years (preferred)

* Strong engineering management skills and confident when dealing with figures, design issues and programmes

* Working knowledge of CDM 2015

* Working knowledge of Common Safety Method and Railway Interoperability Regulations
