Your Role and Responsibilities
IBM is looking for experienced Content Designers to join our 100+ person strong design team based in London and support the expansion of Content Design within our team. We work with UK clients across all sectors, including Boots, Scottish Government, BP, NHS, Wimbledon, Lloyds and many more.
IBM iX is the business design and Customer Experience Transformation arm of IBM Services (IBM's consulting business). Content Design at IBM
Content designers create and communicate meaning throughout an end-to-end product or service experiences for its users and customers. They help people understand how to engage with services with clarity and consistency and guide people to advance their next steps to achieve their goals.
As a Content Designer, you
Are an experienced practitioner responsible for developing content strategy and solutions for large-scale problems
take responsibility for content quality, managing small teams and evangelising the value of content design
know how to drive a cohesive end-to-end content experience that moves users through every phase of their journey and drives their actions
evaluate content requests and work with stakeholders to understand the business problem, goals, and outcome
deliver clear, inclusive, accessible, and translated content for all users of the service
create and guide content strategies, plans, and the information architecture for communicating to the target audience
work with content design, UX, visual design, and stakeholders on end-to-end delivery of the content plan
research and design content based on user scenarios and use cases by understanding personas, delivering content for design iterations, developing and clarifying terms, actively contributing to design reviews and conducting user testing/research to validate your designs
share work in progress, along with giving and receiving critiques
Have experience working with government delivery programs under the GDS Service Manual or Scottish Digital First Service Standard frameworks.
Core skills and experience
User-centred content design. You can create and iterate content for end-to-end services. You can deliver through others and direct their work. You have experience researching and studying the subject and context to create content goals and journeys based on user goals which inform content and result in viable, feasible, and desirable solutions. You have experience defining and applying consistent voice and tone throughout content journey.
Inclusive design. You understand the importance of diversity in user populations and you know how to include all kinds of users in appropriate research and design activities to help you and your team deliver accessible and inclusive services.
User focus. You know how to collaborate with user researchers and can represent users internally. You understand the difference between user needs and the desires of the user. You can champion user research to focus on all users. You can prioritise and define approaches to understand the user story, guiding others in doing so. You can offer recommendations on the best tools and methods to be used.
Prototyping. You approach prototyping as a team activity, actively soliciting prototypes and testing with others. You can establish design patterns and iterate them. You can use a variety of methods of prototyping and choose the most appropriate ones.
User-centred and agile practices. You understand user-centred design practices and know how to embed them into an agile workflow to deliver timely findings. You can work in an open, iterative and collaborative way in a multidisciplinary team. You have a foundational understanding of UX design and User Research.
Stakeholder management and communication. You can influence stakeholders and manage relationships effectively. You know how to build long-term strategic relationships and communicate clearly and regularly with stakeholders. You also know how to work with a cross-functional team, and collaborate with colleagues to deliver compelling stories and solutions to user-centred problems.
Strategic thinking. You can lead the design and implementation of strategy, directing the evaluation of strategies and policies to ensure business requirements are being met. This may include localising content for specific audiences.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
* Experience of content design for both digital and non-digital services with proven ability to create usable and accessible content which is accurate, timely, high quality and conforms to style and meets user needs.
* Demonstrable knowledge and passion for user-centered design practices for both internal and public facing services
* Able to use analytical and problem-solving skills to help the team solve design problems and challenge assumptions.
* Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team in an agile development environment, and therefore at ease with rapidly changing deadlines, workloads and goals.
Preferred Technical and Professional Experience
* Understand how a digital service should address the needs of all possible users so that no one is excluded, with particular reference to accessibility and assisted digital.
* Experience of working on government services and the GDS or Digital First delivery methodologies.
