Job Summary

The Transport Planning team is committed to solving real-world transport problems. Whether that is finding solutions to complex movement issues, transitioning to sustainable, low-carbon and active travel modes, or preparing business cases for funding solutions for our clients, our team does everything to imagine a better solution and to deliver it. We have an exciting role in our established team, based in Bristol or Cardiff.

You will work in a collaborative team, working closely with our Project Managers and Leaders within Transportation and other disciplines across our offices. We believe in developing talent, and you’ll have training and mentoring opportunities to support your growth as you work on a diverse range of projects.

Our Transport Planning team has supported and delivered high-profile projects in the South West and across the UK for a variety of interesting clients. Examples of our current projects and clients include:

Urban Mobility Strategy for South East Dorset

A303 Amesbury to Berwick Down (Stonehenge)

Sustainable Transport Strategy and Award-Winning Bus Hub for Bournemouth University

Transition to Low-Carbon and Electric Vehicle Fleet Study for DVSA

The Role:

As a Consultant in our Transport Planning team, your key responsibilities will include:

*

Delivering high quality technical tasks independently and under supervision from more senior staff;

*

Working with and supervising more junior staff;

*

Contributing to technical client reports and presentations.

*

Supports planning studies and reports for new and updated plans, programs and regulations.

*

Reviews or assists in the review of development proposals and site plans for conformance with codes, plans and regulations.

*

Prepares and presents detailed reports on development proposals to government bodies.

*

Collects a variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics, such as census information, land use, transportation tax base data and occupancy rates.

*

Assists in evaluating re-zonings, ordinance amendments, site plans, special use permits, variances and other proposals.

*

Coordinates community review of public and private development projects.

*

Provides information to the public regarding development regulations.

*

Assists in resolving citizen and customer issues.

*

Under direct supervision, conducts field evaluations and assessments.

Minimum Requirements

*

An inquisitive mind, adept at problem-solving and with a background and broad understanding of current transportation trends and issues with a depth of knowledge of key policy and guidance documents.

*

A good understanding of the principles of transport planning;

*

Good technical report writing capability; and

*

The ability to manage your own time to meet project deadlines, whilst working to a budget.

Preferred skills and experience

*

Experience of undertaking a range of transportation-related projects and studies involving Travel Demand Management, Sustainable and Active Travel, Mobility as a Service and Future Mobility, Health, and Carbon.

*

Knowledge (and preferably experience) of GIS systems as a tool to manage, analyse and present geo-spatial data.

*

Experience in the use of Microsoft Office software packages.

Preferred Qualifications

*

A degree qualified in a relevant discipline (or equivalent) in Geography, Economics, Transport Planning, Planning or a related discipline.

*

Membership of a relevant professional chartered institute, or eligible for membership of a relevant professional chartered institute; for example, Transport Planning Society (TPS), Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK (CILT), Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT), or Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE).
