AECOM’s Economic Development practitioners have been instrumental in forging collaborations to reposition local economies, design master plans, execute regeneration strategies, create more sustainable environments, formulate comprehensive plans, produce and review business plans and adopt regulatory and financing strategies that enable effective implementation. We are adept at working in multidisciplinary teams.

AECOM’s Economic Development Team is one of the leading and growing consultancy teams in the UK working on a wide range of economic development projects in the UK and overseas. We are currently working on numerous commissions for Local Authorities, Local Enterprise Partnerships, and City Regions covering business case development, Levelling Up, Towns and Future High Streets Bids, as well as Freeports and Enterprise Zone bids and the development of transport, economic, spatial and infrastructure strategies to drive economic growth and productivity improvements. We are also working as part of large multi-disciplinary teams within AECOM to help make the case for major projects such as the A303 Stonehenge Tunnel, High Speed 2, Crossrail 2, Future Luton Airport, Dublin Airport Expansion as well as a wide range of road and rail improvement schemes and mixed-use developments.

We are now looking for a Consultant to join our team to support our expanding UK-focused economic development business based in London..

The Role

1. Responsible as part of the Economic Development team at AECOM for helping to win and deliver significant projects in the UK and overseas covering:

*

Socio-economic, Health and Community impact assessments of infrastructure and development schemes to support planning applications, business cases and funding bids.

*

Case making for and feasibility of a wider range of economic development projects and programmes.

*

Design and complete primary and secondary research projects and data analysis to develop a compelling evidence base particularly for major transport and infrastructure projects

*

Economic growth, sectoral and other spatial strategies from local to national level in the UK.

*

Evaluations of projects, programmes and policies to show impact and value for money.

1.

Ability to analyse and interpret a range of data and information. (Aptitude to work on excel models and ability to carry out development viability appraisals are desirable)

Initiative and ability to work both in a team and independently

Aptitude for contributing positively as a team player

Commercial interest and awareness

The ability to manage work on projects on time and to budget and team inputs, to communicate and liaise with other staff, consultants and clients

Responsible and accountable to a Director, Associate Director, Principal or Senior Consultant for the technical delivery of small projects, or undertaking a technical role as part of an integrated project team on larger assignments.

9.

Proactive in being client focused, understanding the needs of the project and offering high quality, professional economic development and related advice.

10.

Provide support on business development efforts and develop business awareness through resource and project management. Over time develop a project management role in business development and work winning.

11.

Committed to continuing professional development and career progression and encouraging others to do the same. We will support you and invest in you through our career development and leadership potential programmes.

12.

Provide guidance to more junior staff within the team.

It would also be helpful to have knowledge and experience of work in one or more of the following areas: market research and data analysis (e.g. covering industrial sectors, retail and/or housing market research); Business case development and feasibility studies for economic development projects; Economic, socio-economic, community, or health impact assessments; Regeneration strategies and local economic development strategies; and project and programme evaluations.

Minimum Requirements

1.

A developing track record in economic development with around 1.5-3 years post qualification experience. Also it would be desirable to show experience of some of the following areas: land use planning and property development, transport and infrastructure projects, environmental impact assessment, design and delivery of business support and skills initiatives, business case and funding submissions including independent appraisal.

2.

A portfolio of work which demonstrates excellent technical capabilities including report writing and presentation.

3.

Analytic and numerical skills including good spreadsheet skills for data analysis and other relevant software skills.

4.

A highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills and ability to work in a consultancy environment, effectively managing client relationships and working to tight deadlines in a flexible and responsive way.

5.

A team player who can work as part of wide project teams across disciplines and geographies – making high quality technical contributions. Helps to support the building of the team and developing internal relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

1. A degree in geography, economics, business, transport or sustainability or a related discipline with a postgraduate qualification in a similar field desirable and/or overall equivalent experience.
